I was planning on driving his car because of gas prices, I'll save tons of money. What needs to be done???

If your brother is not going with you, which it sounds is the case, have him write a dated note authorizing you to drive his car and go into Canada with it. Make sure you have insurance and registration information in the car with you as well.

Most of the time they don't check who owns the vehicle you are driving, if it is licensed in the same state as your drivers license is. Only show the information above if asked, don't offer it if no one asks specifically.

Pichi is right. I drove my brothers car with Quebec license plates across the border to New Brunswick (drove Montreal -NB via the US) I had no problems getting into the US , but getting back into Canada they questionned us because the Plates where from Quebec , but our address was New Brunswick. They told us next time get a letter from owner of vehicle authorizing us to drive it.

Nothing, should be no problem. Unless you do something really out of line, they are not going to ask for your registration. just need your photo I.D. and certified birth certificate.
