White boxer are neither "rare" nor "defective". Just as our hair and eye color are based on the genetics we receive from our parents, the white boxer receives its color from the genetic factors of his/her parents. And all boxers have the potential to produce a white pup. It is estimated that 25% of the puppies born are more than 2/3 white. White boxers are not albino---unless they also have blue eyes and no other color markings. The problem with deafness in these dogs is caused by a lack of pigment in the ear canal. The estimations of cases of deafness range from 15 - 40%. The reason that so many people believe that these dogs are rare is because some breeders have been known to kill the pups immediately after birth. This is done in a belief that these pups "taint" the appearance of the bloodline of the litter. Any reputitable breeder will actually discount the price of a white pup and require the purchaser to sign a contract to have the pup spade or neutered. Also, a reputitable breeder or responsible owner would never breed a white boxer because of the likelihood of producing pups that will have a higher risk of deafness. Some white boxers do pass away sooner than expected...however, this can be said of all breeds.
Although AKC does not recognize these animals for show and do strongly discourage the breeding of white boxers, this does not make them any less valuable as pets.
Applying sun screen and preventing extended time in the sun will reduce the occurances of some types of cancer in these dogs, just as with us.
Everyone has a choice...if you don't think that white boxers are worthy of the love and affection that you have to offer a pet, if you think they are inferior or defective, if you think that they are not worth the trouble because of the risk that they may be deaf...don't get one. But, this by no means proves that they do not deserve to live and be loved. Personally, my white boxer comes home on October 2, I will have him nuetered, see no reason to purchase the AKC registration for him that his brothers and sisters will have and, if deaf, will adjust my life to relate to him in spite of his limitations just as I would with a child.

It's likely because WHITE is not an accepted coat colour in boxers.. They should be FAWN or BRINDLE.. The person who is breeding for, producing and not spaying/neutering white boxers is not breeding to the standard set out for their breed.
AGAIN.. There is no good reason to breed if you aren't going to use the standard that is set up for your breed. There is a reason why white is not accepted.. SO why would someone purposely go out of their way to produce a colour that is not accepted.. It's not just that someone that wrote the standard does not like white..
Doesn't matter if people show, or they don't show.. Breeders think .. SORRY.. RESPONSIBLE BREEDERS think that there is a standard for a reason. People who purposely breed for colour, or size or anything other than taking the entire dog into consideration, is doing the breed a huge injustice.
Would you breed your dog just cause he gives good kisses?? Someone with 1/2 a brain wouldn't.. You breed to IMPROVE the breed.. Not to make up your own silly colours..
Your white boy might be beautiful.. He might be sweet, and loving.. He might be a gorgeous dog.. But he is very obviously a pet because he is not of an accepted colour. He should be neutered and taken from the gene pool... Sorry, but if you want quality dogs being produced, you have to have a standard, and you have to know your standard and you have to be able to look at your dog and be able to use your head when looking at the whole dog .. Producing better means NOT breeding only for colour..
They make wonderful pets, but they should NOT be bred.

I think the problem falls with the fact that many unsavory breeders will try to sell white Boxers as 'rare' and charge a higher price when the breed standard calls for something different. They are also a little more prone to health problems but not anything that would merit them being cut out all together. I have to agree though that no one should be trying to breed to make only white boxers as I cant see how that would be geneticly adviseable. But enjoy your dog no matter what anyone says!

I don't know nothin from standards for boxers but I'll relate this. I had a pure white cat, she had 2 kittens both deaf. The vet told me that all white animals in a breed or species in which it was not normal were essentially at the end of their genetic line and all the weaknesses were coming out. That is probably the concern of the breeders you mentioned. Their delivery may have not been the best but please remember many good folks have put their lives into responsible breeding practices to improve and strengthen a breed. I'm sure they recognize, when given the opportunity to think of it, that your dog is loved by you and has a place. They just don't want it bred, the risk is too great of off-spring with congenital defects.
I hope your dog remains healthy...:)

Because responsible breeders aim to improve the breed by producing dogs that are as close to breed standard as possible. White boxers are against breed standard, so responsible people try to avoid breeding dogs that might produce white pups. If it happens, the dog should be spayed or neutered to prevent it from reproducing, at which point it can make a wonderful pet. There's nothing wrong with responsible owning a desexed white boxer, what's wrong with them is people who intentionally breed white boxers as a 'novelty' to sell for extravagant prices to people who think it's 'neat' to have a dog that is the wrong color for it's breed. There are so many dogs in this world already, ANY dog that is bred should be bred only to produce the best quality pups possible, to improve the bloodlines. Breeding for the sake of selling puppies is wrong no matter what. And that's the only reason people would purposefully breed them. And registration doesn't necessarily mean anything, a dog isn't show-quality or a good specimen just because it's parents were purebred.
And yes, some people alluded to this already, but many solid-white dogs, especially in breeds that don't normally come in white like Boxers, German Shepherds, etc., the white genetics carry a larger number of health problems, including deafness, skin problems, and a higher occurence of cancers. So again, a responsible person would not risk producing a dog with so many health problems for the sake of making it 'pretty'.
Bottom line, take their comments with a grain of salt, explain that (hopefully) you aren't planning to breed any white boxers yourself, and you just enjoy your boy as a wonderful companion. There's not much they can say to that.

White boxers are a genetic defectic. Higher chance of being deaf and getting cancer. Most white boxers die young from cancer. Even if your boxer is AKC it can not be shown because it is not a recognized color of the organization. They should also not be bred due to the fact that they do not meet standards. Nobody says anything about their personality or ability to please their owner.

The AKC does recognize Boxers, but white is a disqualification if it exceeds one third of the entire coat. I, personally, love white boxers, BUT I do not support the irresponsible breeding practices to produce these white boxers. Irresponsible boxer breeders will breed for white boxers because they're "rare". A lot of those puppies are born blind and/or deaf because of white x white breeding.

I think that white boxers are pretty. I think that most people have a problem with it because it's a genitic abnormality, and causes health problems. My mom's friend used to breed boxers and one of his litters had a white one that was deaf.

Yes white Boxers are beautiful and they are loving, however they should NOT be bred or delibrately produced..this is why responsible breeders aren't keen on them.
They carry a gene that can cause lethal white puppies, deaf or blind or both puppies, serious skin issues, heart defects and other health problems.
