"Nebeští jezdci" Czech translation of "Ghost Riders In The Sky" was very popular some years ago.

A recent popular song, at least on the "alternative" radio stations in the US, that was redone in German is "Young Folks". It was not translated, the words are completely different, but the music is just about the same.
The German version is performed by Nena (remember 99 Red Baloons for the mid 80s?).

As far as a real "translation" of a song -- the same music and the same meaning of the lyrics -- there are some that really make me wince which the Czechs and Slovaks nicked back in the bad old days of communism. One that particularly stands out is the cover of "These Boots are Made for Walkin'", done by a certain Yvonne Přenosilová (she emmigrated soon after she did that) as "Boty proti lasce" (literally 'Boots against love', check it out here http://www.czechmusic.net/jmena/prenosilova_e.htm ). There are dozens, though, certainly throughout the former eastern bloc from that period, and often the local people do not know that the songs are covers ... in one case I was accused of being an American imperialist for suggesting the Czechs did bootleg covers of songs from the West -- why, of course, the West STOLE the songs from the East! people believe what they want...

In Venezuela the sixties and seventies it was popular for bands to sing translate translated to Spanish rock and roll songs. Bands like the Dars would translate songs from The Beatles, Elvis Presley and Bob Dylan and make albums. Sometimes you can still hear those songs on the radio.
