I was just wondering as I've read that the Kaabaa in mecca was originally a hindu temple to Shiva in pre-Islamic days (when an Indian king had control of a part of Arabia). Shiva also wears a crescent moon on his head as part of his look.

Is the islamic crescent symbol in any way linked to Shiva?

It is actually a secular symbol related to astronomy.

The crescent was the symbol of the Sassanian Empire of Persia (Iran) and is displayed on the crowns of its rulers.

After the Arab conquest of that empire in 651 it was gradually adopted by caliphates and Muslim rulers as an established and recognized symbol of power in Western Asia.

Although sometimes now used as a symbol for Islam, it was never used by Muhammad or any other early Muslim rulers, as the Islamic religion is, in fact, technically opposed to "Holy Symbols"

It isn't actually. The crescent symbol we commonly associate with islam is actually the symbol of the Ottoman Empire, The major Islamic country the Europe was in contact with that existed until the first World War.

Crescent is not an Islamic symbol. This symbol was adapted by Abbaside and Ottoman dynasty and has no direct relation to Islamic beliefs.. The claim that holy Kaaba was a temple is nothing but a claim without any historical basis.

No, the crescent refers to the Islamic lunar calendar. In Islam, a new moon means a new month, so basically the lives of Muslims are dependent on the moon. The star symbolises the five pillars of Islam (ie Belief, Prayer, Fasting, Charity and Pilgrimage). The star was also used for guidance hundreds of years ago by Arabs when travelling.

Pre-Islam, the Kaaba was a place for idol-worship. The Kaaba was NOT originally a hindu temple, nor was it rules by Shiva.
