He is not taking his responsibilities seriously. He is entrusted with keeping his flock spritually healthy and fed. His flock will soon lose respect for him and it may cause them to also stop listening to him and his substitutes. Also, some members might feel unworthy and stop attending services-Acts 20:28; 1 Peter 5:2
It is like a parent constantly refusing to sit down and feed her child. She has someone else do it. Sure the child is fed, but he/she will suffer from feelings of rejection/worthlessness because the mother did not feed him/her.

Does it excuse himself from leading Sunday worship for football often?
If so ,maybe he should be a parttime preacher and a full time worker in the football industry;if not often, then he should do such on his own time and not during "working hours" on Sunday. The pastor should also give the deacons or others time to find a replacement(unless there was an emergency, like car -breakdown or illness or such) and not inform them just the night before.
Maybe your pastor is a real man of God;I don't know him.
Does he preach the Word? Does he live what he professes? Does he visit the sick, counsel the hurting, help the poor, reach out to the needy and administer thesrevices of his spiritual office?
If yes, then don't worry,if no,then,well...maybe your church needs to "face these issues" about his ministry to the flock of the Lord. God bless

I think such a pastor that desecrates the Sabbath by not keeping it holy needs study more, and possibly to seek conversion.
Sunday is really a work day, you know. In 33 years of church history, Luke only uses the name for Sunday (first day) one time in ACTS (20:7). Paul, writing over the same time also uses it once (1 Cor. 15). In both those instances they were guarding the Sacred hours of Saturday. See: www.revelado.org/666.htm

by religion pastors cant get laid, what else do people want? so now he has to devote his whole life to it? no, I think pastors should also be able to see football games or whatever they wanna see and not have to be there every sunday. although it would be better if he called in advance and not the night before. but regardless, its okay and not wrong for a pastor to not give the sermon for once in his life

Was he ill? Was the reason legit? If not, it may be time to find a different Pastor.

Maybe there was a legitimate reason why he wasn't there. Or maybe there wasn't in which case he should have been there. Either way we can't make judgment period, let alone an assumption based on a comment we see on yahoo R/S.

I think this pastor needs to hand over the job to someone who has been called into the ministry.

He obviously had an intense hangover. I honestly would care less. A hangover is an inavoidable part of life.

Depends on how often he does this. If it is a one time thing he may have a valid reason.
