Don't push him on it. Just notify the coach and he should have insite if not, not let him play with out the right equipment.

I would think that would be something his coach would enforce the players wearing.
Try to find a male figure, whether one of his friends, an uncle, or family friend, that he is comfortable around to talk to him about wearing one. I'm sure if one of his own friends told him he needs to wear one he would at least seriously consider it. And if he still refuses, it is his choice and he might just have to find out the hard way how important it is for him to wear one (hopefully he won't have to find out). Good luck!

Use your motherly instinct. Explain to him how delicate the "goods" are and if he were to get hurt, it'll be a lot worse. Try to even look for a more comfortable strap or something. I think they have a variety of straps in sport stores. Better to be safe than sorry.

some kids just have to learn the hard way mom, and you gotta let em learn their own lessons. It's hard to do, but that is the way it is. He gets hit there with a fast ball one time, and I guarantee you he will wear a cup from then on. Frankly, I am surprised his coach doesn't insist on it.

He will automatically react if the ball goes in that direction. He might get hurt, but that's what we do when we're kids. Live and learn is sometimes the best teacher.

Use your pediatrician as a resource. Has he had his yearly check up? This would be a good time for his doctor to breach the subject.
Good luck!

like most kids, they think they know more than we do...so what you need to do is let little "johnnie" play without a cup until he gets his first "hit after that, i'm sure that he will come around to your way of thinking.........

i hate to say it, if he gets hit once that will change his mind. ask him if he has ever been kicked there and explain that it is ten time worse.
