Assuming the coach is a male. Have the coach talk to him.
His father is another option if he agrees with you.(Assuming he has 1 around)
Just let him do whatever and if his"goods" happen to get hit and hurt. Just say I told you so. Then he might start respecting and listening to you more often. But then he is 14 years old.

It might help to have his doctor talk to him about this at his next check up. If that is too far off, I agree that his coach might help. If he were to have an injury it could mean that surgery would be needed. I don't think that any male would want to have surgery on "the goods". Also it could be possible for repeated injuries to lead to a bigger problem later in life. Also wearing a sports cup would be better than just a jock strap.

Go out there and play catch with him.Throw that ball right at his goods. Then I bet he'll start wearing one.Better yet goof around with him and accidently knee him. He'll get the picture.See he hasn't been hit there yet. Not only that tell him he'll want kids when he gets older. Plus u can always go to the coach and tell him.I work in the school system. He'll be more then happy to help out.Good luck Don't let anyone talk to u out of him wearing one.He really needs to. Catchers have balls hit the ground and come right at his goods.

There are some things you will not be able to make him do, and that is one of them. Let him play without one, and when it happens, that will make a believer out of him. My grandson was a catcher, wore a cup, got hit, and wanted to puke because of how bad it hurt. This is just one of the things he will have to experience before he finds out Mom knows best. You might want to pull the coach aside and talk to him about this issue and see if he will be able to handle this. Don't let your son know you talked to him.

Well...I am assuming his coach is a guy right?
Why don't you talk to his coach about it, and then you two can sit down with him and the coach can explain the importance of the jock strap to him. Then you can tell your son, if he doesn't wear the jock strap..then he might not be able to play ball anymore.
And if he still refuses to wear it after the pep talk, then when the day comes and he is hit in his package...then he will instantly know why his mom and coach wanted him to wear that jock strap :) Sometimes you have to let them crash and burn before he gets it.

Do you have a family friend that is a male that your son trust? If so then try getting this guy to talk to him about it, or a family member. I would press the issue because he's going to get hurt and it's up to you to protect him as children they don't always realize especially teens that you are trying to protect them.

Hi,
Let him know how serious this matter is and print materials to show him in writing what can happen to him. Let him know that this happen to players that don't protect their self. In addition, the coach of the team should require protection as a condition to play. Here is a link with injury information.

Honestly? Hit him in the nuts with a softball and when he falls down tell him "now let's go get that jock strap". He's not going to care about the safety of his children one day, so explain to him that getting hits feels like getting punched down there- that should get through. I have nephews and they are the same way.

well frankly my dear the jock strap will not help much if he takes a direct hit to the family jewels. i have brothers who played and when they took a direct hit they still rolled around on the ground begging for mercy.. talk to his coach if he does not insist that it apart of the equipment then let it go.

Ask his uncle or grandfather to do it. Or u could talk to other parents on the team. If all of his friends are wearing them then eventually he will probably jusp on the band wagon. GOOD LUCK!
