For starters, the church does not fobid family planning, it gives you the best and must accurate and safest method.

Second, the church is asking that if you marry that you have a marriage in Christ and the way that Christ loves the church. The way that Christ loves the church bears fruit, His love is not selfish but giving, and His love shares love.

That is what they are asking when they ask you to be "open to children", to be selfless and allow God to work and allow God to help you grow more christlike, and if the bearing of children helps you to grow less selfish and more christlike than that is the best plan for your life.

Lastly, if you raise your children in love, laying down your lives for them as Christ did the church, you will set aside ambition for them and spend the time necessary to hold them, nurse them, suckle them and train them. If a women slows down her pace to nurse and suckle the child as a child needs to be held and suckled and fed, then her hormone levels are so low that fertility does not return until this crucial period of the toddlers life is over(typically at least 2 years).

FYI people in Africa are dying from aids because they were never taught how valuable an exclusive monogamous relationshp is--not because of lack of Condoms.

Catholic priest use to have sex and then they changed it.
One pope said once to trust in good for all, but afew weeks later he was in hospital have to worlds best docs looking after him.
Now back to your question. If you look thru history you will see
that even before jesus people used condoms /made of different materials. Or, they had herbs that women could take so they would not conceive. And of course we can nowadays use a thermometer to determine the save days.
I would say if you look really hard you will see in all religions you are to educate yourself. And if you learn about the above possibilities then you should not get pregnant.
For myself I have never taken the pill and have a normal sex life. The only time I got pregnant was when I wanted to. All the other times I did not want to - so I didn't.
I hope this helps.

They feel sex is for pro creation only and not to be enjoyed. At least that is what my Catholic friends tell me.

If you look at the Catholic church the major majority of its members were raised in it so in my humble opinion they want to make the church grow by have many babies. I do not know any catholics that do personal evangelism and if they used birth control I suspect the Church would dwindle in numbers.

I don't see anything wrong with this and I could be wrong, but that is my thought on it.

yeah, technically you are supposed to use the rhythm method. have sex when the woman is not ovulating. it's not that reliable. so there you go. If the catholic church wants to pick up your grocery tab or pay a mortgage on a 6 bedroom house for you, don't use condoms.

Yes, that's the idea. Based on the line in the Bible "go forth and multiply" the Catholic church disavows the use of birth control.

Of course, if a Catholic has lots of babies, and those babies are raised in the Catholic tradition, then there will be more Catholics. A-ha! The plot unravels!

There is more to it than that.
One of the edicts of God is that when you totally place your trust in Him, all is provided for.*
We live in a society that basically does not trust God, and hardly, one another.
In an ideal, Godly society, one would indeed WANT to raise children, and be proud of it. One would also be able to be so perfect in faith, that gardening would be the occupation of the masses. Not to mention fishing and perhaps hunting, or husbandry of some sort.
When someone in this ideal society needs help, the entire community would go out and help him/her. (Help those afflicted)

This is God's plan for each and every one of us. It is not a church rule so much as it is God's dream.

Realize the catholic church leaders have no sex. Or well not suppose to. Practicing no sex in a marriage would be impossible. I wonder what they suggest in this case? Not all are called to the priesthood or to be a nun.

This is why catholics always have large families. Rabbits breed like catholics, not the other way around
: )
Yeah, I think thats what the church wants you to do. I personally dont think birth control is asin; Abortion is, but not birth control.

thats been a problem for years ...i knew one family that had eight kids ...the father finally got a vasectamy because of his wife's health and practical reasons ...it was a big scandal in the catholic neighborhood i grew up in.
catholic doctrine tends to be rigid at times ...many catholics just do what they have to do and dont talk about it.
pray hard and listen to your heart.

This is one area in the teachings of the church that most people (at least in the US) don't follow for financial and other reasons.

The rhythm method is acceptable to the church, but it's not fool proof.

Do what is right for your family.
