get a second litterbox and try that. I have one cat that will only pee in one box and poop in the other box. He is very, very particular. He will also poop next to the box, not in the box if he feels the box is too dirty.

Medical problems can lead to this. If the cat has used the litter box without a problem before, a checkup would be a good idea, it could associate the litter box with pain. A change of litter can also do this. Then you have to answer the psychological questions. How close are you and those in the house, with the cat. Have there been any big changes, a new cat, different people, working hours, a pet dieing. This could be a sign that the cat is dealing with an emotional issue. Try a vet check-up, see what they say.

I had a cat that would do this if there was already any poop in the box. I had to have 3 litterboxes for 3 cats, and I had to scoop them out at least once a day.

If this is a new behavior, and nothing has changed in your cat's environment, it could be a sign of illness. A trip to the vet might be in order.

Change the litter box if it's old.

Also keep an eye on her when she goes to the litter box to make sure she goes inside it.

Also, Cats don't like stress in the house or loud noise and act out their dislike in this way. Spend more time with her.

Changing the type of cat litter which you use will usually not solve the problem unless you have changed it recently, in which case the cat may not like it.

Good Luck

Cats will do this if they don't like the kitty litter you are using or if there is anouther cat using the same box if this is just one cat change to a different brand of cat litter
hope this helps you.

yeah, cats can do that..maybe your cat needs two seperate boxes.put a small shoebox or something beside the litter box and maybe she'll get the idea to crap inside it.make sure you clean the litter box often and put in lots of litter for your cat.if she still continues to do this, you need to scold her so she gets startled and stuff.

Well the only time my cat will poop out side her box is when it isnt clean. but if you have more then one cat it could be because another cat is useing it. or maybe you just need to clean it thourly and she is telling you that by shiting on the floor.

if this is new behaviour and the box is clean, the cat may be sick. some cats do like separate boxes but this probably is not the case is kitty was using the box before. clean it well and see what happens. it is continues take her to the vet. mine does this when she a stomach ache, she almost always barfs up a hairball soon after she starts this

you need to sit down and have a cat to cat discussion with your cat. somethings you cat will tell you why she or he doing that, i not getting the attention i desire, my litter box smells, it needs cleaning more offten, i want a change in food, just love me for whom i am, also one more thing if your cat only does that while you're not home, that means she or he's pissed you're leaving him or her home alone,
