I don't see what is so hard in your life. You have a bossy brother, that you can ignore, a younger brother that is good to your parents, and an ex that abused you emotionally, and you hear about him at family dinners. WOW maybe you would have alot of weight on you shoulders if someone in your family was going to die, you had a fatal decease. I think you want some attention from your parents because you are the only girl and you feel sorry for yourself.

Your family seems to be the typical American family. Yes the first, the problem child and the last child seem to get all the attention. It's the normal ones that get less attention because their parents know their ok and will turn out alright.
You only have control of yourself and can change only that. Unfortunately with ex and brother still friends and brother not respecting your feelings you will have to make adjustments yourself.
Your brother's problems and friends are his problems and he should fix it himself. Note: My brothers (twins) would have beat him to a pulp; but not all big brothers are protective.
Consider yourself ok and learn to accept the fact that you don't need everyone's approval or concerns to be happy. You know what is right and will choose the right path for yourself.

I think you can use this.
The 'Doc as he calls himself in this website (blog rather) claims he can give sincere advice. the link is given below. He calls himself the relationship doctor. You can also email him your queries I guess.

I think its worth a look-see. Won't do no harm.
Cheers!!
