It's all in the investment! A commercial steam cleaner is bigger, costs more, and is built to withstand heavy use!

A Dirt Devil steam cleaner is designed for private light home use! Dirt devil has two or three different models. Each has its purpose and designed for varying work loads.

A very good friend of mine bought a Dirt Devil Steam cleaner to clean the wall-to-wall carpets in her family room, and her nmaster bedroom. It works very well for her. She only does one room at a time. She steams her carpets three times a year. She has been getting very satisfactory results. As long as you are not trying to get a commercial grade job, you will be fine.

One suggestion, though. You may want to consider calling in a commercial company for a one time steam cleaning, if it's a large area. After that, by steaming two or three times a year, you will be able to maintain the carpet area quite nicely and easily.

WARNING!! Dirt Devil, and some other makes of steam cleaners do not work on Berber or rubber back carpet, so please check the style of your carpet before you invest in a machine!!

I've used the "Green Machine" with success. Depends on how often you think you're going to clean your carpet. Renting a steamer on occasion might be preferable.
