40%-50% is standard at most galleries.

It depends on the gallery. In going markets like New York it may be as high as 60%. More typically it is somewhere around 30-50% in smaller markets, and some galleries take a little less.

50% is standard in major markets like New York. Less if you are delivering the work framed, so they don't have to pay for framing (but you will have to, and it isn't cheap).

Lowest I have ever seen is in a local gallery attached to a ceramic studio. The owner is only taking 15%, but she's not interested in making a lot of money off of her members' work.
