Lourdes displays the following:

1) The child chosen for this series of visitations was among the poorest of the poor. She was illiterate, very young, hopelessly naive and not in good health. Yet through her tenacious defense of those visions, her heroic refusal even in the face of prison and threats against her family she stood firm for the truth and gave the world a miracle.

2) To date, there have been more than 200 medically verified,(and by doctors, some of whom are atheists btw), miracle cures. And the spiritual cures are uncounted, but there are records of thousands who, having gone to Lourdes have experienced God personally in their lives and changed those lives for the better and for all.

3) Mary, the Mother of God, made herself known to us at Lourdes through one of the least of US. A foretaste of what God has in store for all of us if we would but say "yes" to His call to. "Come. Follow Me."

4) The real message of Lourdes is that God's love has no end, no equal, no limits. And it's freely given, no strings attached. Just say "yes" to God.

Our Lady of Lourdes appeared to three Catholic children and told them, ''I am the Immaculate Conception.'' When the children told about the experience they were subjected to extreme scrutiny and their lives were threatened. The next time they saw Our Lady she promised them a miracle at a specific time and place. Thousands of pilgrims--believers and unbelievers-- local officials and skeptics came to see if the children would deliver on their promise for a miracle. Then there was a miracle and thousands upon thousands of non-Catholic Christians converted. The Blessed Mother gave the children the three secrets of Fatima, which tragically and stupidly, even most Catholics continue to ignore show indifference to.

You know of the appearance. For some reason because of the appearance of Christ's mother the Virgin Mary, it miraculous. As Christ's mother she is also a mother of us all because she is the mother of our brother Jesus> A mother would wish her child to be in good health and so the sick go there in hope of a miracle. That miracle may only be reconciliation with God. A friend of my family (no a member of the Church of Rome) went and she felt so loved and cared for and cherished she wanted to go again. Sadly she was unable to. I am not trying to prove anything just give an indication of why too some people it is so important

It's a city in the Pyrenees in France where Bernadette Soubirou saw the Virgin Mary. Don't really know when. So, now it's famous for it's pilgrimage. It is also said that the spring water is miraculous.
