Yes, I know the odds are miniscule. :P I'm looking for an actual statistic, though, with references...

If it helps, I'm talking about a 28 year old man in Germany and a 28 year old woman in the US.

Yeeeeah, so apparently homework is the only reason anyone would want actual statistics.
*eyeroll*

I'm just wondering what the actual odds are that I and/or my fiance will die before he can move to the US (in two years).

My actual homework involves a comparision of the relationships between T.S. Elliot and "Childe Roland to the Dark Tower Came" to the relationship between "Childe Roland..." and Shakespeare, and has absolutely no relationship to statistics. I could get back to it a lot quicker if you'd answer my question...

Thank you! ...erm, I guess - since I just found out that my fiance (if he were American) apparently has a 0.27% chance of dying before he turns 31 - which is still way more than I would like - but I got my answer, so thank you...

Not sure how the tables work, but for the USA, the death tables are at the link above.

There is a new set of data in Germany. Can't find the tables. This sounds like homework. You might try asking a grad student if they have any idea what is happening in the field in Germany. Otherwise, use the USA data for a male and then say since he is german and it is politically correct to DIS the US, that he will live slightly longer there.
if you are worried about real people, don't worry. Too many factors interfere in single person predicting. "ODDS" are for large populations. The odds of a 28 year old man with HcV dying this week and the odds of another man the same age dying this week because he stepped out in front of a city bus -------well, the odds are just not meaningful.

That being said, most of insurance and annuity would not work without actuarial (death) tables.

Don't worry!! He will come home. The odds of either of you dying from disease is negligible. If he loves you and refrains from stupid and risky behavior he will be back.
I was an idiot and worked in one of the most dangerous places on earth and survived age 27 and 28.

If you studied probability in school, then you are right, the chances are really miniscule provided there are no common factors between the two.

If there is a common factor, then odds are dependent on a number of factors. You may get a probability of 1 in 50000 if a high number of common factors are encountered.

Best person to answer this is ofcourse the insurance ageny.

If the 28 year old man in Germany drives a BMW on the Autobahn, he's more likely to die before the 28 year old woman in the US. Speed kills. Unregulated speed kills faster.

men die before women but given the state of violence in america I'd say the women goes first. also, you should factor in her ethnic background since even though they may be healthy some groups are still more likely to become diabetics and get heart disease then others.

Not very likely, I mean look at your average 28 year old couples today. Do you seen any of them that are dying off?

There are several other facts that would need to be included, such as their lifestyle, job, diet, and other activities, but as the other poster stated, if this is for homework, do your own research.

not very likely, unless something traumatic was to happen while they were together. That also is a unlikely event that can be easily avoided.
