There are parts in the bible I question. Like this one. Is it me or is this degarding to women?

"Husbands, love your wives, JUST AS Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless. In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. After all, no one ever hated his own body, but he feeds and cares for it, just as Christ does the church - for we are members of his body. 'For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh." Ephesians 5:25-33

Yes everything in the bible is true. The verse you have mentioned does not mention words which are degrading to women. In fact the Lord urges husbands to love their wives. What is wrong with that? Maybe you are thinking that a man must have many wives and they are just okay. No, that is not the point in the verse. It does not say: Husband (without s) love your wives (with s) but rather: Husbands (with s) love your wives (with s). The bible is against adultery and against a husband cruel to his wife (Malachi 2:16). God wants the husband to love and respect his wife as He loves His Church.

depends on what you believe. see, i dont follow organized religion because i think its pointless. you've been TAUGHT that some guy named Jesus died for your sins, been TAUGHT that the bible is the words of God. Personally, I don't think you can LEARN a religion, because why should you believe any of this? This happened thousands of years ago, the bible and the whole Jesus thing. You know how screwed up messages get when passed from person to person, never mind from person to person for thousands of years. plus, Chrisianity, and most other religions for that part, were created before most things were understood. Think about it, people thought that the world was flat, that you would fall off and get eaten by monsters. people didn't know that a whole other 4 continents existed on their own planet. they thought that when women got their periods, it was the sign of evil, had no idea that it allowed birth to take place. Basically, most of what that they have thought has been corrected or modified over time. but their religion stayed! why should i believe that this wasnt just another silly superstition that they had to explain the things they didn't understand, a sort of myth, just like the falling off of the world?
So personally, I believe that there might be a God who created the world, the universe, all of the basics. I don't think he watches over every human being like most people think, I mean there billions of species and people, why should he care about you? And personally i dont think I believe in the words of the bible as words from God, but rather as a book of stories written by a wise human a long way back encouraging us to have good morals. however, being as old as it is, of course some of our morals have changed, and not everything should be followed anymore. And religion as a whole has just been used as a scapegoat and an explanation for the things we cant figure out by most, an ego boost in a way to hide the fact that we don't know everything. if you are truly religious, you should only be greatful for the things they have granted you.

sorry, got off track there, but anyway thats just my opinion

I believe each religion's holy or sacred book is "right" - after all it wouldn't be holy would it if it had lies?

for the section you quoted - I was told given some basic differences in way men and women's brains are wired - it is to teach men the importance of HONORING women, to "keep us safe," not misuse us - since we are the ones who give birth to the next generations. Men and women as a life team is what I think "one flesh" probably means.

God saying - this is a good thing I gave you guys, don't mess it up !!!

Yes the Bible is true always. But how do you see the command for husbands to deeply love their wives as degrading? Do you prefer doing as the people of the world treat women as targets of drunken rages, hitting them, abusing them, committing adultery?

These scriptures citied call for husbands to treat wives as their own bodies, as one flesh. If he regards his wife as good as or better than himself, how is that anything but good?

Jehovah as a God of order, caused His Son's organization to be set up with the smallest element being the individuals in the family. Husbands as head of the family are responsible to Jesus as head of the congregation and look to him as an example. Jesus put his people's welfare above his own. He made sure they always had what they needed at the proper time. He set up provisions for them even when he was no longer with them physically. How could this be degrading to women?

If "Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church" (the ultimate expression of self-sacrifice) is somehow "degrading to women" (huh??)....then I don't even know what to say to that! That is pure love, undefiled...

Some of it's literally true, some of it speaks in metaphors, and some of it includes things that we would find strange today because we live today, not 2000+ years ago.
