Hi, I've just set up my freeview box in my new place and it won't even pick up most channels and the signal is so weak the ones it does pick up are unwatchable. What can I do to improve the this? I used the same aerial and digibox in my last house a few streets away and the reception was generally good. I've got an indoor aerial which came with a signal booster but the aerial itself isn't that big, so do I need to buy a better aerial or a better digibox? (I can't replace/connect to any aerial on the roof because it's a rented block of flats)

just because the aerial you used a few streets it does not mean it will work where you are now. generally moving aerials from one house to another is a bad idea the reason being you may not be on the same transmitter.

what you need to do is to contact a local aerial erector and have a new aerial fitted, the one you took down at your last house may be the wrong group aerial, or it may have to be fitted horizontally or vertically for the polarisation unless I know where you live and the exact location of you transmitter it is impossible to tell you.
for your information aerials are grouped A,B,C,D,E AND EACH ONE COULD BE VERTICAL OR HORIZONTAL ORIEENTED DEPENDING ON THE TRANSMITTER.
ALSO IT COULD REQUIRE WIDE BAND OR A DMX OR EVEN A ANTIGHOST AERIAL AND FINALLY A HIGH GAIN AERIAL so you see it is not just a matter of moving a aerial and expecting it to work. to get the best possible picture you require a aerial erectors advice and local knowledge on if you can recieve freeview signals in your location. a common misconception is ppl will tell you you require a digital aerial let me tell you there is no such thing as a digital aerial all aerials are capable of carrying the digital signal, ppl tell you this so they can charge more money I can assure no digital aerial as ever been made only the name as been added to ordinary aerials to make them appear better and cost more.

I HOPE I HAVE CONVINCED YOU TO HAVE THE JOB DONE BY PPL THAT KNOW WHAT YOU REQUIRE IT IS THE ONLY WAY

With analogue TV as the signal weakens the picture gradually gets snowier until no longer watchable. With digital there is a sudden point at which the signal is too weak to be usable. This is called the edge of the cliff effect. Even with a good outdoor aerial you may not get all Freeview channels because until the analogue is switched off, some freeview channel groups are being transmitted out- of -band and need a wideband aerial to receive them. Also digital is not on full power yet until analogue is switched off. Here is a link to help you.

Hope this helps.

you may just need to extend the pole on the outside aerial! It may be that the signals are getting blocked from the angle it is on or interference is distorting the signal. Raising it above the problems where it has a clearer view of the signals may help. There are various sites also you can check to see what sort of signal you should be receiving in your area for each channel. Worth taking the time to 'fine tune' your freeview box!

I'm sorry but you need an external aerial. There are wall mounted ones available that you could stick outside your window or balcony.

Freeview is notoriously susceptible to signal quality, something never mentioned in all the "switch to digital" advertising, To be honest you were very lucky to be able to get freeview on an indoor aerial at your previous location.

My partner and I had the same problem when we moved into our flat around a year ago. We had no reception at all and we live in a block of flats, with grouped aerials. We spoke to the landlord who arranged to get all the necessary work done. This was done at their expense within a week of our asking for it to be done. Why not ask your landlord if they'll do the same? After all, you may live in the flat, but your landlord owns it. I bet they're quick enough to collect the rent, so let them invest in their property.

the complication is you will in effortless terms understand in case you attempt. the sturdy information is that as quickly as they turn off the analogue transmissions on your section they'll advance the flexibility of the digital alerts. Any advance interior the digital sign will intrude with the present analogue transmission, so as consequently it is going to be unable to be finished now. If the booster does not artwork and additionally you would be able to't await the flexibility advance you ought to evaluate satellite tv for pc. I surely have seen kits for £40 those days and in case you DIY it somewhat is all it is going to value to get carry of each and every of the digital channels on Freesat. See link below. installation a dish is definitely in the scope of a DIY guy or woman. It does choose staying power to align the dish, yet I did it ok without previous adventure. seek the internet for tutorials.
