I've tried for years to get contacts and I'm 21. I couldn't do it either. I love my glasses though, they're changed alot since I was 8 years old and have gotten way more fashionable. Now i'm no longer known as the girl with big round glasses to "the girl with the really cute armani glasses" (they're not as expensive as you'd think..especially covered by insurance)
the best thing I would say is try to stay relaxed, go with someone that's comforting to you, not someone who is going to stand behind you and huff and puff when you've been trying for an hour straight to get the contact in (aka my mother)
most places will not do laser surgery on you until you are about 24. I'm just in the process of counting down the days. the only thing i'm scared of is while they give you drops, you are awake. But I figure I'll be over the fear of that when I get to think of myself not having to wear glasses anymore.

First of all, it's good to have a healthy level of fear of contacts. They are a serious thing and can lead to major infections (unlikely if you properly care for them, but still possible). Use that fear as motivation to keep up with good hygiene.
That said, getting used to contacts is like getting used to anything else. It takes awhile. Do you remember the first time you tried to swallow a pill or when you first started getting shots at the doctors? I bet both of those activities were hard to get used to at first or even scared you, but after time you probably didn't give them a second thought.
It's the same thing with contacts. My advice is to stop thinking about it so much. Like getting a shot, if you psyche yourself up about it it becomes more difficult. So take a deep breath, wash your hands, and then put the contact in. I think it might help if you take a friend or family member with you to the doctor's and maybe they can help calm you down. It's really not that bad once you get used to it. Take the plunge.
Remember that it may be hard at first to get used to inserting them or wearing them. Give yourself time. When I first started wearing them, it took me an hour to get the contact in and I ripped a few of them in the process. Within a couple months, I could get them in in a few seconds.
Laser eye surgery usually costs a few thousand dollars. My aunt had it done a few years ago. She said she went in and it was done within a few minutes: very low hassle. If you are interested, talk to an ophthalmologist. They can perform a consultation and let you know if you are a good candidate (not everyone is). They usually have financing plans as well. Here is a link for more info about it:

Good luck with whatever you choose! :)

They take some getting used to, but contacts are so worth it!! I got them when I was 12 and I am 28 now. I wear my contacts until the minute I am ready to go to bed and put them in first thing in the morning.
Take a friend with you when you go to get them. I was in the office for awhile with mine. If you have a good eye doctor, they will really be patient with you -- if they aren't, find another doctor. Explain your concerns in the beginning and see what they suggest. Just keep picturing yourself with those gorgeous eyes, free of glasses!

When I got my first pair of contacts they had me look at a corner and place the contact in and then focus my eye. Once contacts are in your eye you can't feel them at all. It's something you get used to over time.
Does your doctor understand your complete fear of contacts?? You should have them explain the concept of putting them in and then leave you alone so you can experiment for yourself (just make sure your contact is completely clean and free of debris before putting them on).
Contacts are definitely worth it!

Actually the lazer treatment is totally painless, they put drops in your eyes and you don't feel a thing. If you are very nervous the doctor can give you sedation too so you sleep thru the whole thing. Talk to a specialist that does it, many consultations are free.
