My boyfriend had meningitis for about three months at the beginning of this year... I didn't really know him then.
But I've heard that, even after a person gets past having meningitis, they still carry it with them, always.
Is this true?

It doesn't look like this is true. See these sites for more information:

It would be best to ask your doctor about this, though.

If he had meningitis for 3 months, then you should really worry. For only two bugs can cause such long meningitis. One is Tuberculosis, highly unlikely if he was up and well. However, if he is immunocompromised like AIDS, steroids may be it was fungal. However, you won't get meningitis from either just by talking around and if you are healthy. However if the meningitis was fungal, may be you should ask your BF why he thinks he got it?

that depends, did he have bacterial meningitis or viral meningitis?
If viral meningitis, which virus caused it?
He would have been told by the doctors if he was a carrier, so if he was not told that, then he is not.
Meningitis is simply an inflammation of the meningeal tissues of the brain, it's what causes the meningitis that may or may not make a carrier of the virus that caused it if it was not bacterial meningitis. Bacterial meningitis is the most common form of the illness. It is completely cured with antibiotics.

To answer your question with any reliability, we would need to know the causative agent for your bf's meningitis. A three month duration is unusual and makes me think of a fungal cause, or perhaps a viral encephalitis. What is his immune status?
