When you travel overseas, you need to be aware of what you are allowed and not allowed to bring back to the U.S. For instance, in Mexico and quite a few other countries, there are many types of fruits and vegetables that you cannot bring back due to health reasons. The same reasoning applies to purses, shoes, and accessories that are made in foreign countries, as well as edible items. Some items are made of products that are on the endangered species lists, some items are counterfeit, or maybe the U.S. is boycotting items made in certain areas where we are having lots of problems, i.e. China, etc. There are good reasons to ask the Customs Workers BEFORE you leave this country if they have a list of items that you cannot bring back into the U.S. for whatever reasons. If Customs doesn't have a printed list, then ask what items are NOT allowed back it and jot them down on paper. I just noticed that you added to your description that the Louis Vuitton's were fake. They are counterfeit and no, you will not get them back. You will never get anything like this passed through Customs. They are on the lookout for counterfeit items, contraband, endangered species list items, and items that are taxable. Because you HAD to have them, it cost you good money in the long-run. If you must have items like this in the future, look around in your home state. There are counterfeiters in every state that get busted and start back in business the next day unders a different name. But if you are in the store when the police confiscate the merchandise, if you have already purchased it, they will take yours too, no questions asked! It's better not to take the chance to begin with.

As you were already advised..Importing knock off handbags is illegal, and they are considered contraband and are permanently confiscated and eventually destroyed. You can also be sued into non existence for copy right infringement , and bootlegging by the REAL manufacturer's........
U.S. Customs along with United States Parcel carriers ALL keep very detailed records. You will wind up being prosecuted....

They were probably from a country not recognized by your country and will be kept. Example: Friends of mine went hunting in Canada. They found some flannel shirts at great prices and bought many of them. When crossing back into the U.S. they were told that the shirts were made in China and could not be brought into the country. Confiscated and not returned.

There may be customs duties to be paid on them.
I was sent a case of wine from California...it made it to the
State Liquor warehouse- I was told to pay $ 60.00 tax to
release it...I said send it back. Same kinda deal.
Sensible...shirts made in China ? Don't we have TONS of
Chinese clothing here already? I don't get it. Why would they hold them?

You are screwed. The merchandise you tried to get in the country is counterfeit. You Will NEVER get these bags back. What CBP does with them is anyone's guess. They are supposed to be destroyed.

I'm sorry to say but you won't get them back. They are counterfeit merchandise so subject to seizure just like when they confiscate illegal sofware, CDs or watches.
