That depends. Did the sex offender keep doing what he was doing while "having faith in Christ"? If yes, then according to Christianity NEITHER would go to heaven.
Jesus says that we'll know other Christians by their "fruits." If their "fruits" are rotten, then that probably means that THEY are rotten, and they don't know Jesus, and He doesn't know them.
However, if a FORMER sex offender repents, and MEANS IT, then yes, he (or she) would go to heaven, while the philanthropist would not. The reason for this is that there is NOTHING we can do that's good enough for God. It's ONLY through the blood of Jesus Christ that we're able to enter heaven. Again, this is according to Christianity.
Christianity is not supposed to be a license to keep sinning, though some people treat it that way. If a person sins continually, while thinking, "Oh, I can do whatever I want, God will forgive me" they are deceiving themselves. That's called "tempting God," which we're told not to do.

That research might have been skewed. I think most Christians will say the atheist will go to Heaven. The sexual offender doesn't deserve to go to Heaven. Is just stupid and I never heard any Christian say that or the Bible tell me that is okay to do bad things as long as you have faith.

It's one of the misconceptions about Christianity. In fact it is not OK to keep sinning after you have become a Christian.
Here's how John puts it in 1st John:
...a person who claims to be continuing in union with him (Jesus) ought to conduct his life the way he did.
Or here's how James put it:
....what good is it my brothers if someone claims to have faith but has no actions to prove it? Is such faith able to save him?
Back to our sexual offender.
The only way a serial sexual offender would get to heaven was through true repentance. That means totally surrendering to God and turning away from all sin.
Now you can not truly repent and then go back to living the way you used to.
That is also not what forgiveness is for.
Jesus died for our sins not only so we could be forgiven for our past sins but also to empower us, through a relationship with him and the power of the Holy Spirit to live a life no longer as a slave to sin and to our own selfish desires.
Of course you are still able to sin even after you have received forgiveness but the desire to do so is no longer there.
As for the philanthropist, I believe you can be a good person without being a Christian. That however will not make you righteous in the eyes of God. No matter how good a person you are, the fact is you have sinned and you need forgiveness.

As long as the serial sexual offender accepts Jesus, repents his sins and chooses to not commit them anymore then yes he will go to Heaven. However, God can see into your heart and a false conversion/confession will not cut it. Serial offender to me says false conversion and theat mean no Heaven. One the whole be good thing. Christianity says that GOOD WORKS alone will not get you into heaven. However BEING GOOD is a must and implied when Christians say that you must follow the Ten Commandments.

This is a very interesting point...
Assuming heaven and hell exist, the atheist, no matter how nice and gracious he or she is, will burn in hell either way. But seeing as the atheist doesn't believe in heaven or hell... It'd be a bit difficult to go to either.
Once again, assuming that heaven and hell exist, the christian sexual offender would go the heaven but get a slap on the hand from st. peter, it seems, or maybe have a bit of a sit in purgatory. But heaven and hell don't exist, so... they'll rot in a hole in the ground with the atheists.

My comment is you don't have any idea what you are talking about.
An atheist with faith in Jesus. I have got to meet this guy.
If the serial offender truly had faith in Christ he wouldn't do that.
Christianity calls for the repentance of sin. No christian would tell you it's OK go ahead and sin.
Are you young and naive or just dumb?

What if they go No where? I don't think just a belief in Christ is a free ticket to the good life of the next world. I think you pay for all you have done, or not done here.
I think we tell people what we want to believe, I don't think any of us truly knows what God wants or expects from us. All the references to the bible are fine and good, but it was written down by man. As we all know a story always gets enhanced by the teller. I think we will all have a big surprise when our lives here are called into question. I know I have some fancy step work to do!

BOTH of your contrived examples, if real humans here, will go to the next higher Mansion World Heaven made by our Creator Son of God Jesus Christ for our ever ascending continual rehabilitation into all Godly perfection !
ALL humans ascend up to the loving and merciful ETERNAL NOW JUDGMENT of God and Jesus and Their One Holy Spirit. See and believe fully John 12:31-32 (Yes, most sincere Christians are not yet Spirit-discerning enough to really grasp much of that; can you ?)
It is a terrible sin to knowingly presume upon the Divine mercy ! If you know something is not God's will, you should pray for Divine Spirit Strength to have the free Grace of more self-control to not do that !
Always know that God and Jesus are each no mere "respector of persons" They perfectly, here and now, judge each and all humans EQUALLY by their thoughts and words and actions -- it does not matter if one is an atheist or agnostic or humanist or fully God-conscious and Eternal Spirit Born ! We all have the same perfect "tests" of how well and how much we do the fruits of the Spirit in augmenting the evolving finite reality of God the Supreme under God the Ultimate under God the Absolute(s) under the One Father-Infinite I AM on infinite Paradise.
Too much you say? IF God were SMALL enough for our understanding, He/They would not be LARGE enough for our real needs !
One more important point; Jesus tells us that those with 5 talents will get 5 more, those with 10 will get 10 more. He who has "talents" gets more; he who has "not" gets all (all "not") taken away ! zero minus zero = ? :))
Here is Jesus now on this Truth:
"I AM the True Light of Life Who now Shines
and the darkness (not light) is not !"
All is flooded with infinite Bright Holy Light !
In Spirit Light there is no spirit darkness !
Absolute I AM Spirit Flooding All Reality !
Behold our True God here; for the time is at hand !
Rejoice in Light and Life and go and sin no more.
Count the costs of being nothing and being yoked in Light !
Light -(dark nothing)-Light or Light -light-Light

If the sex offender is a follower of Christ, he will go to heaven. God alone knows the sex offender's heart, and only He knows if he is sincere in his commitment to Christ or if he is only pretending to be His follower.
Believing that Christ is God is not enough to be a Christian. A person needs to repent and accept Christ as His Saviour and Lord.
http://billygraham.com/MyAnswer_Article.asp?ArticleID=1606
"A true Christian is a follower of Jesus Christ, and even if they aren't perfect, they still have made a personal commitment to follow Him.
Your question, however, is very important because, unfortunately, the opposite can happen. It is entirely possible for someone to think they are a real Christian but not truly be one. Many people, in fact, say they believe in Jesus—and in one way they do. They believe He existed; they may even believe He died on the cross and rose again to give us eternal life. But nothing has happened to them inside, and they live just like everyone else.
What is wrong? The problem is that they've never personally committed themselves to Christ. To put it another way, they've failed to trust Him alone as their Lord and Savior. The Bible says, "Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God" (John 1:12).
You see, the word "believe" in the Bible really means "to trust"—and that is what we all need to do with Christ. He has done everything necessary to make our salvation possible—but we must trust Him and commit our lives to Him. I pray you look at Christ and what He has done for you, and then trust Him alone for your salvation. "
Luke 9:23-27
23Then he said to them all: "If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. 24For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will save it. 25What good is it for a man to gain the whole world, and yet lose or forfeit his very self? 26If anyone is ashamed of me and my words, the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when he comes in his glory and in the glory of the Father and of the holy angels. 27I tell you the truth, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see the kingdom of God."
1 John 1:8-9 (New International Version)
8If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. 9If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.
