I don't think you can find anything in your budget- unless you have a roommate. Phoenix is much more affordable than L.A.

You will make more in LA and pay more in LA. I've heard Phoenix is nice.
There are no "affordable" places to live in LA - atleast none I'd want to live in. Try the San Fernando valley but if you want affordable make sure you speak fluent Spanish because all your neighbors will be speaking Spanish.
Oh...less than $800 per month?? Maybe a bachelor apt. in a Spanish speaking neighborhood. Best bet is to get a room mate.

Try property management companies. I found a nice 1 bedroom in Long Beach for $800 a month.
If you are trying for $500 or $600 a month, you'll definitely need a roommate. You'll just have to search high and low. Good luck.
