At its most fundamental core, a religion is a pathway to god. The purpose of every religion is to guide man in the right direction, educate him so that he is able to adopt the correct culture, lifestyle and mentality which is needed to connect to the divine creator, as well as to be the personification of God and spread godliness, virtue and love in the world.
Each and every religion is holy, sacred and must be respected because god is in every religion and every religion is in god. Islam and Christianity have been antithetical to the fundamental concept of religion. By marketing their religions like it is a business product and begging for recruits, they are disrespecting the sanctity of religion and they are making religion appear to be cheap.

Historically, Islam and Christianity are the only religions that have engaged in wars of religion, they have been responsible for some of the biggest genocides in the entire history of man as well as other atrocities such as slavery, the burning alive of women (Christianity) and the destruction of temples, the rape of women and the burning alive of pre-Islamic priests (Islam). Even today, Islam and Christianity, far from being a force for unity are a force for powerful divisions, and even today use religion to justify war, aggression and terrorism.
Courtesy of Islam and Christianity, many regard religion as a source of conflict and problems, furthermore many question what purpose has been left for religion. Many view religion as being an institution run by hate filled people who are more concerned about attacking other religions, gaining supremacy, acquiring recruits and money rather than actually preaching about God.

Religion and Dharma are two different things. Religions are destined to have certain inherant lacunae in it's entity. Islam and Christianity are not Dharmas. At the best they over sized Cults. You have your roots in Hinduism. That is why the things which looks obvious to you, an Islamist or a Christian can never think of. Forget it .

1) It depends on what definition of religion that you use.
2) Christianity and Islam are not the only religions where there were battles fought over them.
3) Religion tends to be the organized version of Christianity, which I don't necessarily subscribe to.
Lot's of people think that Buddhism is great! They just never commit to it, I wonder why? Perhaps it's the lack of desire to adhere to ANY religion, and those who bad mouth ALL religion never really wanted to commit in the first place!
Let's face it, we have people in the world that like conflict, and so they come here to have it. Those that complain a lot, tend to commit to nothing.

No, hypocrisy has tarnished religion, a minority of the followers of Islam and Christianity have tainted their religion and the very concept of religion with their hypocrisy. From the terrorists who murder innocents and falsely claim their religion justifies their deaths. From the liars who claimed that "God" told them to start an unjustified war. From those who cloaked nationalism in religion to draw others to their blood-soaked cause.

"Each and every religion is holy, sacred and must be respected because god is in every religion and every religion is in god".
You are sorely mistaken! Your politically correct, all accepting teaching is the breeding ground of the Antichrist. Jesus Christ is the only way to God the Father. All religions do not honor Jesus Christ as the Son of God.

Its so crazy that christianity and islam are always at war. Both religions believe in one God, heaven and hell, satan, angels, living in the word of God, and following his commandments or laws. You would think they would be best friends, with so much in common.

No, Islam and Christianity are not near the only religions that have fought over their beliefs, though they are historically the two most violent religions. Judaism also has its share of violence, and many polytheistic and Indian beliefs, though to a lesser scale.
Why do you categorize all religion as a pathway to 'God'?
Last I checked the earliest religions we know of were polytheistic and pantheistic in nature.

Islam and Christianity are man made religions that are about hate and idiotic dogma. Religions that seek to take away a person's right to think for them elves.
Eventually their followers lose the ability to think for themselves completely.
What is the most tragic is they perpetuate the ignorance by teaching bigotry to their children.

It is God's will for us to do what is right-not to go off and murder eachother in his name under the banner and mantra that its "Gods Will." It is the people who manipulate the word of God regardless of whether they are Christian or Muslim, to conform to their ill motives. People are the problem not the faiths. The faiths promote goodness, people distort it.
