okay your dog is old so it is obvious it will be having a few problems in later life, poor thing!
its very sweet that you care so much for this dog.
firstly take him to the vets to get a thorough check up, and something to help with the arteritus.
try and get tins ov dog meat and mix in some dry food nuggets.
the best food i have found for all my dogs is burns!!
its made ov mostly natural things and my dogs love it,
they have a senior food which one of my dogs is on now and she is doing very well (at 11 years old she is still running around like a puppy) thats your best bet i think..they dont need much of it either but it costs a little more than other dry food..but its worth it trust me!!
best ov luck with your new friend heres the link for the burns food website..hope it helps you!! xx

Hills makes a food for joints called JD but it is a perscription and can only be bought through your vet. There are other foods out there for the senior dog you might look into. If he is having a hard time with the kibble try mixing in some soft food with it. I have a 10 year old german shepherd with arthritus who is on Remedyl which works great for her stiff joints. You might want to check with your vet on medication for her. It's not cheap but it really does make her feel better and is worth the extra cost. Good luck with your senior dog.

I think the reason he is thin and isn't eating is because he misses your Nana. Dogs can get depressed just like humans. If she has had him for that long that would be me opinion. A vet might be able to help you out with that. The dog may need medication for depression. I hope everything turns out okay. Good Luck!

I would take the dog to a vet and have his teeth checked. This is probably why he won't eat, his teeth hurt. Also you can get some suggestions for medication for the arthritis. I gave my dog glucosamine pills for his arthritis and it worked very well! I just got the human grade stuff at Costco, it is cheaper that way, but talk to your vet first. Also vet hospitals sell a special science diet called A/D which is basically a hospital diet. The hospitals use it on animals that won't eat anything else. I haven't known many animals that won't eat this stuff, especially heated up, yummmmy! Plus it is full of calories and fat. You can only get it at a vet hospital with a prescription, so please go to your vet!

ok, i think it is time to take the dog to the vet! he will probably need to have an IV for fluids and medicine for the pain he is in. he might be worse off than you think. if he doesn't eat, he will die, sorry to say it like that. you need to take him to the vet, no question about it. good luck and i hope he is ok.

Why not use wet dog food? Also, the vet can help you with doggie's arthritis.

you might add a little rice or cottage cheese (very small amount) to his canned dog food and see if he likes the new flavor.
