I have the same problem....I went to a Gasterologist and since I'm only 19 he gave me this....take 4 Metamucil tablets a day take 2 stool softeners a day and get meralax and out that in a bottle of water...Also drink as much water as possible until you pee clear. It might take about a week but it works trust me...I used to go 2 weeks without going!

My wife is the same way. She stays impacted but won't do anything to remedy the siuation. Take the advise of the folks who said plenty of fiber and fluids. Steer clear of laxitives as anything but a short term, almost emergency solution. To clean her out good before you start the fiber and fluid regimen, start her out by drinking 8-12 ounces of water once an hour four five hours, then the last time she drinks give her two Dulcolax and have her drink one 8 ounce bottle of magnesium citrate. This will purge her colon. Make sure that she does not have to go anywhere for at least 12-24 hours as she will need to stay close to the bathroom.

Doctors will say that the body is most healthy if it goes poo 3 times per day. It could also depend on what she eats. Does she not eat so many solid foods?
This should really be addressed to a doctor. It doesn't sound healthy. Bran should help but if it isn't something isn't right.

No, that is not good at all. Very unhealthy for her body. She may want to think about doing a cleanse or a 2-3 day juice fast to get a good cleaning. Then she needs to eat lots of green and dark yellow veggies like spinach, or any greens, and yellow squash. prunes, pumpkin, and 100% whole wheat bread, old fashioned oats. limit the milk, dairy to 3 servings per day. cut down on junk, lots of breads and sodas. 8 glasses of water per day. She doesn't have to be supper strict every single day but she really needs to do something. very unhealthy and can lead to lots of problems later on. She should have a bowel movement AT LEAST every other day. I also find drinking coffee helps. I have never read it anywhere or been told by a Dr but I drink one cup and it's a guarantee 30-45 min later I gotta go! =)

It is not normal to poo once a week unless you have a low fibre or low food diet. At least daily is the ideal. Encourage her to eat as much fibre rich food as possible (beans, fruit etc) and drink plenty of water.
If it continues not to work go to the doctor BEFORE trying laxatives. Could be any number of things as simple as diet to as complex as Irritable Bowel Syndrome or diaverticulitis.

your girlfriend should void on a regular basis, so i would suggest that she may try a gentle liquid laxitive that would give an immediate response. also when she has the urge to go, she should go. waiting or holding it in can\maybe cause constipation but also, consult her doctor please......
