( i already asked this question, but didnt get alot of answers)
i was at the hospital meeting with my surgeon(im getting a posterior lumbar fusion). Before a team of doctors came in the room, i started to feel really sick (like i was going to throw-up) and got really hot (my mom and dad said it was freezing in there). Also i was shivering alot, and got kind of dizzy. What do u think happened? If it helps i was so scared, and im a 14 yr old girl. i know i wasn’t dehydrated because i had my blood pressure taken, and they said it was fine latter that day. Thanks for all the answers.
p.s. my surgery is Wednesday, any ideas that the same thing won't happen again? should i tell my doctor what happened?

Sweetheart,
I was the same way before my back surgery and I was a lot older than you. I told my doctor and he said most people do get nervous, He gave me a mild tranquilizer before I was put on a bed. Tell your doctor how you feel. I know he will put you more at ease and he may give you a tranquilizer just so you won't have anxiety, or panic attack. If you need support, I am here for you and you many mail me. Just click on my profile and mail. I will be praying. I know it's hard, but you will do great. God bless.

It could have been a panic attack or just your nerves. I began to feel this way before my first surgery a year and a half ago (since then I've had 5 other various surgeries). I told my doctor about it, and he told me that I was so nervous that my body began to give me strange symptoms. I've learned since then to just breathe, and focus on the positive. I would certainly let your doctor know about this just so you don't pass out somewhere, or have something else happen. It shouldn't be a big deal, but just make sure to let your doctor know. I"m sorry that you have to have such a serious surgery done at age 14, I'm 15 and have had a knee surgery, 4 spine surgeries to implant a spinal cord stimulator, and a hip surgery to replace a battery pack for my spinal cord stimulator in the past year and a half. Best of luck to you!

It sounds exactly like anxiety but yes it won't hurt anything at all to tell your surgeon and your parents. Speak up because nobody is a mind reader and it'll probably calm you down. Anxiety can be a very stressful thing. My sister suffers from anxiety attacks that are really bad. They happen to her anywhere from on the street while she's been driving to sitting at home. It is something that has to be talked about with another person...though for mild cases there really isn't anything you can do about it. Good luck with your surgery...everything will be fine.

Well, yes let your doctor know what happened, but it does seem like you are really scared. Our bodies can do that. Our feelings will affect what our bodies do. They really are connected. You need support from your family and anyone else who is important to you while you are going through this. I don't think your reaction is so strange.

You had an anxiety attack, which can happen before or during highly stressful situations. It can be scary at times. Relax more and you'll be fine.
