I rinse first with regular mouthwash to get out larger food particles that have gotten jammed there. Then when I actually brush all the rest gets scrubbed off but I am not wasting brushing time on stuff that the mouthwash alone can clean.
I follow that up with a Periostat mouthwash that my dentist prescribed to leave a coating of germ fighting (antibacterial) liquid on my teeth.

1.) Floss
2.) Brush
3.) Rinse
Always!
I did an experiment in biology in tenth grade and it really freaked me out. We had to swab the inside of our cheek and see what was there under the microscope. Well, I learned that even when you brush you will still have food particles left from what you ate the day before!!! It grossed me out so much that I've been obsessed with my teeth ever since lol
I carry a travel size toothkit everywhere I go.

I personally like to brush my teeth, floss, then brush over once and then a mouthwash. It seems to work for me. You need to do whatever works best for you.
