By what authority do you know that he was "truly seeking out the truth"? Everything I've read about him suggests that he was seeking to invent his own truth...that he had no desire to find the real truth because there could be no profit in it for him. I'm not saying that I know he wasn't seeking the truth...in fact, none of us can know the heart of another person. Perhaps he was and allowed himself to be deceived...or perhaps deception was his goal from the beginning.

Well, I don't ask questions like that so I can't answer THAT question. You are aware that, logically, evolution is ridiculously impossible? What I wonder is, "Why don't any of these evolution followers ever explain how in the world a cell 'decides' to do something other than replicate itself correctly?" In fact, that process is often called, "Cancer" and it KILLS the host organism. Seriously, we have all kinds of general "this mutated into this, which in turn mutated into this" junk floating around but has anyone ever OBSERVED an organism evolving? Not genetic selection, now, that's not what I'm talking about. Sure, if only tall people get married and have children, populations will get taller. But explain to me at what identifiable point cells start changing on their own and species "become new species." At what point does the little legless organism's DNA decide, "I think we'll grow some nubs today. Ready guys? Okay. MUTATE!" How about, "wonder twin powers, activate?? Form of ______ Shape of ______" I'm obviously not a scientist. But I'm asking a serious question. Show me how this works on a cellular level and show me the duplication results. Then I'll be willing to consider this "theory" as a viable idea.

We don't know his heart and God does. If he was desiring to be a leader of something of God with no accountability to others and wanted the Best of Only Revelation that nobody else had.......(meaning he didn't consider himself part of the "body" of Christ but wanted to be the head" then he was already in the wrong spirit and God would allow him to be deceived. We don't know what occured with Joseph Smith. King Saul was greatly loved by God and got deceived, lost the throne of Israel, died because of his deception. He literally deceived himself. I'm thinking when a person chases after a throne or position in their heart of hearts God knows it and maybe he tried to warn JS, we don't know for sure until we get to heaven and know all things.

Well, I'm NOT Mormon - and I DON'T think that he was "deceived". I think that he was a treasure-seeker, a fraud, a flim-flam man, a con-artist...who told so many lies to a bunch of people who WERE seeking "truth" and THEY got deceived.

Smith was a typical "snake-oil" salesman in his day. Working on the theory that if you tell the same lie (although his "lie" obviously morphed over time, given the hundreds of changes made to the Book of Mormon) long enough and with enough conviction, it will be perceived as "truth" by some - - just look at the way Nazi propaganda worked.

Intro,
The message of Christianity is so simple because God knows how stupid and easily mislead we are; why do you think He calls us His sheep? As a discerning Christian, you need to know that any man with a message other than the message of The Gospel is from the deceiver and is also an anti-Christ who "goes about like a lion looking to see who he will devour". Be not fooled my friend, these are the last days and the unholy one will be coming soon if he is not already here!

How do you come to judge Joseph Smith? How do YOU know he was seeking the Truth? You don't. He was deceived. Perhaps he was satisfied with his deception and stopped looking for the Truth. The Mormon Doctrine of the AT ONE MENT is so radically different from the clear teaching of the Bible that one must believe Smith simply gave himself over to a lying spirit. God has judged Smith's soul. I would not want that responsibility. However one is drawn to the statement in Matthew 7
22Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?

23And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

24Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:

Smith stopped seeking truth when he sought after his own way. It might have started when he shoved his face in his hat and told his friends it was his own way of "seeing" something. Or it might have started when he decided that if he could force his wife to accept plural marriage, he could legalize his own randy needs.

No way to know for sure, but we do know he WAS deceived and started a chain of deception that has lead millions into the pit with him.

It sounds harsh, but hell isn't a day at the beach!

God didn't allow that, Satan is the deceiver as he was in the garden with Adam and eve.

How do we know what his real motives were. As far as I'm concerned he was another Jones Town. People are gullible.
