Yahoo defines a troll in the following manner:

A "troll" is someone who intentionally and persistently posts inflammatory messages about sensitive topics to bait users into responding or provoke a confrontation. We also consider people to be trolls when they persistently misuse product features such as the ratings system to negatively target others.

So what is a troll in R&S? Pretty much everything we talk about is inflamatory! Which of these questions is not report-worthy by these standards:

"Atheists, do you know that you will burn in hell?"
"Why does God hate me because I'm gay?"
"What do you abortinists not understand?"
"Why do you think the Bible is the Word of God?"
"Why are atheists even here?"
"Did God really tell GWB to go to war?"
"Why do some people say Catholics are Christians?"

I mean, religion is behind wars the world over, and we're supposed to shy away from contentious topics? Any thoughts?

Someone that posts a stupid question every 5 seconds and isn't really looking for an answer.

No that's not right. A Troll is someone who post the same message over and over to displace anothers questions rank on the main page or at the top of the page.
Or specifically at [More questions at R&S]
There is a lot of rude behavior here but so far it is as civilized as I've seen anywhere on the net when religion is discussed. There also seems to a lot of complaints about people reporting behavior against the tos? We all agree to abide by those rules when we logged on. Be kind. Have a peacefull day.

Unfortunately in today's society we have forgotten how to police ourselves and require more and more policing from people we have put into authority. I am pretty much sick of it too. But we hear it all the time. People suing fast food restaurants because they got fat. Common sense tells us if we eat a Big Mac Biggie Fry and a Biggie coke we are going to get a Biggie Butt. If people started taking responsibility for their actions and holding others accountable for their actions we wouldn't have to worry about big brother watching. And when Big Brother watches he tends to inflict his opinions and beliefs right down our throats and takes away our right to have a say in anything. I welcome the questions that get people riled up. What lively conversations they create. Think about it if we all agreed and only had one opinion why would we need Yahoo Answers.

Well I agree with you to a point. Religion is confrontational.

However, you can state something in a positive or non-confrontational way. Rather than "Atheists, do you know you will burn in hell?" you could ask "Atheists, what do you think you will do in eternity?" Rather than asking if god hates you because you're gay, you could ask "What aspects of humanity would god find most offensive? Homosexuality or (include list of other "offenses")

Although we do talk about touchy subjects, their is no need for the Theists to damn everybody to hell for being different and because of that I class them as Trolls and report them as such.

you're reported!

just kidding.

it would probably be safe to say that anyone who answers or asks questions here in R&S long enough could eventually be considered a troll, or at least trollish in nature.

Seems to me if questions are civil, RS related, don't demean any spiritual belief, don't insult anyone, aren't deliberately inflamatory, and aren't merely rants and diatribes, they aren't troll questions.

Otherwise, they probably are.

This kind of question annoys me. Why do we have to worry about trolls when there are millions of people in China.
