Get the kitty to a vet. It's because there's something wrong and can be cured with treatment. Check these out: (& Good Luck!!!)

Cats sometimes do this?!! First, my younger cat decided she didn't want to use the liter box. I happen to put a towel on the floor in front of the bathtub so she decided to go there. She's passed on but now the older cat has decided she likes going on the towel too. As long as that's the only place where she's going I'm happy. I can toss the towel in the wash. It is strange because she used to ALWAYS go in the litter box!!! She's a bit cat & you could really hear when she had to pee. Now she's decided she won't go in the litter box at all so now I have surprises wrapped up in the towel. As long as she goes in the towel it doesn't bother me.

I've read of other people who will put the cats food bowl over the spot on the carpet where they went to the bathroom. I didn't have the inclination nor the energy to do that all over the place. If you have a room that doesn't have carpet where you can put the cat with his or her food & a litter box I'd try that. The bottom line is if a cat takes a notion to not use the litter box that's what they'll do. Make sure you do take him/her to the vet to see if there's a urinary tract infection. My other cat DID have that BUT after it was cleared up she still didn't use the litter box.

Cats will do that if they're under some sort of stress. As long as you keep the box clean and make sure she's healthy, you need to look for other things in the environment that might cause her to do this. Is she getting enough attention? Do you give her food that she likes and is nutritionally appropriate? Has something changed in the family, or are there frequent arguments at home? I hope you find some answers.

Make sure she is getting enough water because it could be a urinary tract infection. The best thing to do is talk to your vet. But try putting out extra dishes of water around your house or apartment so she will be able to get enough easily.
