My 1995 Nissan Maxima has been giving me some issues the past couple days with stalling and struggling to accelerate and hard to turn, as if it is trying to stall out. I took it to the mechanic and they were not able to come up with a solution other than fuel filter, air filter, all 6 spark plugs, dry gas, etc... I took it home and the next day its not stalling, but it is still giving me a hard time with accelerating, going as high as 3500/rpm as I try to accelerate to 60 mph. I am planning on driving my car 1300+ miles to Florida, and would prefer to not buy a new car. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!!!

Get ready for a expensive air flow meter replacement. You might want to try a used airflow meter out of the salvage yard. At almost $530 dollars new at Nissan... a wrecking yard part for 90 to 100 might be a good alternative if you ask if I put it on and bring it right back if it does not work warranty. Bogging down under acceleration feels like the engine is not getting enough fuel and that is true! Air flow meter will not set a check engine light unless you force the issue by trying to hold the accelerator down then it will only produce a lean running code..

First, rent a car to go to Florida. It doesn't sound like you can completely trust your Nissan to get you there. Second, get a second opinion from another auto shop. I had a similar problem on my old Toyota and it turned out to be the fuel injectors. The auto shop failed to replace a few parts. Good luck!

Have you had a tune up done on this vehicle since you owned it? And if not, how many miles are on it? It could be what needs done, like the mechanic recommended. That'd be my first choices there. A tune consists of changing sparkplugs, air filter, fuel filter, and such.
