Mormons have a companion book to the Bible called The Book of Mormon. Their formal name is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (LDS). They believe on the "prophet" Joseph Smith who had an angel give him gold tablets and translate it into the Book of Mormon.

Some beliefs include:
1. There are several different universes each with their own god.
2. God was a man on his God's earth who had to earn his way to become god.
3. You can earn your way to be a God and rule your own universe. In order for this, though, you must be married.
4. They wear "special" undergarments for protection.
5. They believe you can save someone who died by being baptized in their place.
6. They don't believe in the Trinity.
7. God has a wife. Their "Heavenly Mother."
8. They don't believe in a hell like most Christians.

This is just a few.

EDIT EDIT EDIT EDIT EDIT

I get thumbs down for simply stating what they believe? I didn't even give any opinions. If you disagree with what they believe (the facts I gave) then don't become a Mormon.

You're going to get a slew of comments from people who don't like Mormons and will try to dig up everything unusual that's ever been said by a Mormon leader. Here's the nitty gritty and you can read it all in about 3 minutes

Read the Joseph smith Story here:
http://scriptures.lds.org/en/js_h/1

Read the Articles of Faith here:
http://scriptures.lds.org/en/a_of_f/1

In a nutshell, Mormons believe that Christ's church disappeared from the face of the earth with the death of the apostles. There were other churches on the Earth, but not one that was led and directed by Christ himself.

Joseph Smith was chosen by God to restore Christ's church and was given the power and authority to do so. Mormons believe that God still speaks his word through prophets.

Joseph Smith was directed to an ancient record of scripture (written in the ancient americas) and was given the ability to translate it. It is now known as the Book of Mormon. The 3rd link below allows you to receive a free copy of the Book of Mormon.

Mormons encourage people to learn of our beliefs, read the Book of Mormon, and then Pray to God and let him tell you whether or not it is true.

There are some common lies/misconceptions about Mormons.

-Mormons ARE christians.
-Mormons DO believe in the Bible.
-Mormons are NOT and cannot be polygamists
-Mormons DO celebrate holidays.
-Mormons DO give blood.

Generally Mormons are very open to talking about their beliefs. You can probably ask her anything that you'd like.

Mormons claim that they are Christ's church, and that all others may have some truth, but not all the truth. For this reason, and because of their strong missionary effort, many mainstream christian churches have taken a strong stance against Mormons.

I know that there is some number you can call to have the missionaries come over. I think on there web site they have different numbers for different areas. Ask any Mormon you come in contact with to send the missionary over, there be there in like a day lol!

PS: you likely will only find slanted anti-Mormon info online. By all means tho study online but also hear it form the Mormons themselves.

Mormons use the Holy Bible to try to make their Book of Mormon seem correct. They do this by picking and choosing verses from the true scripture to try and make their book seem better for you to accept it. Read: http//mormonhelp.info to see more about it. They don't believe God is "The God" but one of many that you can become one also and God came to Mary in the flesh and had sex with her to make Jesus instead of the "Immaculate Conception" as if God, who is all powerful and a spirit at that, couldn't make a fertilized egg by thought alone in his creation to make a baby. Duh! It's all pure blasphemy and degrades, God, Jesus, Mary and many others with their twists and out and out made up lies by Joseph Smith.

i hope after 7 years you have found common beliefs or understanding of a greater degree of what it means to be a mormon.
i dont believe every mormon will become a God. Jesus said in the D&C if men cannot abide in the celestial law, they will not abide a celestial glory.
the LDS do believe in the book of mormon, they give us the articles of Faith to memorizehttp://classic.scriptures.lds.org/en/a_of_f/1
i have thought the BoM to be a back up as well as a message in a bible, literally preserved in a stone box with other ancient artifacts

Just a thought here. I could go an research the Mormon religion and copy and paste a bunch of stuff about it but what would that really teach you? Visit with your neighbor and tell her that you would like to more about her faith. I am sure she will be more than willing to discuss it with you

That would take more space that what is allowed right here. But basically, Mormons believe they will be gods of their own planet when they die.

They worship a different Jesus than Christians do:

"In bearing testimony of Jesus Christ, President Hinckley spoke of those outside the Church who say Latter-day Saints 'do not believe in the traditional Christ.' 'No, I don't. The traditional Christ of whom they speak is not the Christ of whom I speak. For the Christ of whom I speak has been revealed in this the Dispensation of the Fullness of Times. He together with His Father, appeared to the boy Joseph Smith in the year 1820, and when Joseph left the grove that day, he knew more of the nature of God than all the learned ministers of the gospel of the ages.'"
- Prophet Gordon B. Hinckley, LDS Church News, June 20, 1998, p.7

In short we believe that we must actively strive to obey all of God's commandments and that when we fall short, Christ will help make up the difference for us. You could also go to www.mormon.org and ask questions live over the internet.

The first answer should tell you that you are asking the wrong people about Mormons. If you want to know Mormon belief, why don't you ask your Mormon neighbor? I'm sure she would be happy to tell you anything you want to know about her beliefs. Don't be afraid; she won't bite.

On this forum, you will get stupid answers like: "They wear special underwear."

Characters like Jerome and Oregon Flower will direct you to anti-Mormon websites for "accurate" information on Mormons.

1 We believe in God, the Eternal Father, and in His Son, Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost.
2 We believe that men will be punished for their own sins, and not for Adam’s transgression.
3 We believe that through the Atonement of Christ, all mankind may be saved, by obedience to the laws and ordinances of the Gospel.
4 We believe that the first principles and ordinances of the Gospel are: first, Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ; second, Repentance; third, Baptism by immersion for the remission of sins; fourth, Laying on of hands for the gift of the Holy Ghost.
5 We believe that a man must be called of God, by prophecy, and by the laying on of hands by those who are in authority, to preach the Gospel and administer in the ordinances thereof.
6 We believe in the same organization that existed in the Primitive Church, namely, apostles, prophets, pastors, teachers, evangelists, and so forth.
7 We believe in the gift of tongues, prophecy, revelation, visions, healing, interpretation of tongues, and so forth.
8 We believe the Bible to be the word of God as far as it is translated correctly; we also believe the Book of Mormon to be the word of God.
9 We believe all that God has revealed, all that He does now reveal, and we believe that He will yet reveal many great and important things pertaining to the Kingdom of God.
10 We believe in the literal gathering of Israel and in the restoration of the Ten Tribes; that Zion (the New Jerusalem) will be built upon the American continent; that Christ will reign personally upon the earth; and, that the earth will be renewed and receive its paradisiacal glory.
11 We claim the privilege of worshiping Almighty God according to the dictates of our own conscience, and allow all men the same privilege, let them worship how, where, or what they may.
12 We believe in being subject to kings, presidents, rulers, and magistrates, in obeying, honoring, and sustaining the law.
13 We believe in being honest, true, chaste, benevolent, virtuous, and in doing good to all men; indeed, we may say that we follow the admonition of Paul—We believe all things, we hope all things, we have endured many things, and hope to be able to endure all things. If there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things.

First of all why do they call us Mormons??? the name MORMONS were derieve from the BOOK OF MORMON that was being preach by our missionaries.... people just call us that way.. i mean the easy way...other name were..LDS...or ( latter day saint) or SAINTS that was derieve from our official church name...THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTERDAY SAINTS.....

Beliefs:

In the spring of 1842, the Prophet Joseph Smith sent a letter to John Wentworth, who was editor of a newspaper called the Chicago Democrat. This letter contained an account of many of the events of early Church history. The document also contained thirteen statements outlining Latter-day Saint beliefs. These have come to be known as the Articles of Faith, which are given below.

The Articles of Faith are official doctrine of the Church and have been canonized as a part of latter-day scripture. They are clear statements of belief that help members understand the basic beliefs of the Church and explain these beliefs to others. They are not, however, a complete summary of Church doctrine. Through living prophets, the Church is guided by continuous revelation and inspiration.

1. We believe in God, the Eternal Father, and in His Son, Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost.

2. We believe that men will be punished for their own sins, and not for Adam’s transgression.

3. We believe that through the Atonement of Christ, all mankind may be saved, by obedience to the laws and ordinances of the Gospel.

4. We believe that the first principles and ordinances of the Gospel are: first, Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ; second, Repentance; third, Baptism by immersion for the remission of sins; fourth, Laying on of hands for the gift of the Holy Ghost.

5. We believe that a man must be called of God, by prophecy, and by the laying on of hands by those who are in authority, to preach the Gospel and administer in the ordinances thereof.

6. We believe in the same organization that existed in the Primitive Church, namely, apostles, prophets, pastors, teachers, evangelists, and so forth.

7. We believe in the gift of tongues, prophecy, revelation, visions, healing, interpretation of tongues, and so forth.

8. We believe the Bible to be the word of God as far as it is translated correctly; we also believe the Book of Mormon to be the word of God.

9. We believe all that God has revealed, all that He does now reveal, and we believe that He will yet reveal many great and important things pertaining to the Kingdom of God.

10. We believe in the literal gathering of Israel and in the restoration of the Ten Tribes; that Zion (the New Jerusalem) will be built upon the American continent; that Christ will reign personally upon the earth; and, that the earth will be renewed and receive its paradisiacal glory.

11. We claim the privilege of worshiping Almighty God according to the dictates of our own conscience, and allow all men the same privilege, let them worship how, where, or what they may.

If there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things.

Now i would like to share with you my personal testimony about or beliefs...

I know this church is true.. the CHURCH OR JESUS CHRIST OF LATTERDAY SAINTS... and i know that the BOOK OF MORMON is a true word of GOD, and it is not a work of man.. it is imposible for a man to work on this magnificent book...I know that we have a living Prophet today.. by the name of Gordon B. Hincley... i know that Jesus Christ is our saviour and redeemer, that through him all man might be save....i know that Prophet Joseph Smith is a true Prophet of GOD...he is the instrument that was used to restore the lost church of God..i mean restore , i didnt mean we created a new church of GOD..because there is only one Church of GOD....it was gone when the people of old kiled all the saints and all the prophets and apostles that was ordained of Jesus Christ during HIs earthly ministry... so we mean Joseph Smith RESTORED it again.. i just want to make it clear..i know that families can be together forever through the blessings of the temple.. and marriage between a man and a woman is very important in the plan of GOd toward his children...

this things are just the basic beliefs of our church.. if you want the complete info.. visit this website....
