Dude, I have had fast cars all of my life, get a honda or something that wont go much over 75, you might live a little longer. Ever since The Fast And The Curious movies came out, I have seen so many wrecks that didn't need to happen, so many people die, and not just the Idiots that had a 300+ hp car, the mother , the children innocent people living their lives killed because some young punk had a car that he did not respect. Get a slow car that gets good mileage, if you want to go fast, join the airforce after college and fly an F-22, instead of enjoying your 17th birthday in a coma that you will never wake up from............Coma = no sex..........think about it.

Two of my best friends were in this car, one had a severe head injury and he thinks he is a dog , and he chases cars.
The other broke his neck, and cant even feel his "bits and pieces" . The car they were in wasnt even fast, it was just a Ford Probe GT.

you wont find much at all and your insurance will be through the roof. not only that, but cops will notice you more often and you will get stopped if you make even a small mistake. I say you buy a car that is not as fast and is a little bit more on the cheap side. if you do buy a muscle car, get a really old and beat up one and fix it up yourself. you will have to pay for high insurance and your gas mileage will be horrible. i wouldnt be surprised if you do buy a muscle car but have to get rid of it because it is way too expensive. not only that, but tickets and damage to the car if you get into an accident may really ruin your driving record and possibly cause you to go into debt. oh yeah, people will be more likely to break into and possibly steal your car

Blackbird makes an excellent point. At your age, you should be concerned with other things besides going fast on the street. If you do want to race, go to a driving school and do it on a track. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that. I think all young guys want to "push it" at some time and if it is done under the right circumstances it can be a real thrill. To just go out and hit the streets like in the movies is not only stupid, it puts the lives of everyone you come near at risk. To paraphrase the saying used by bikers... Drive to live, live to drive.

for 5K Probably a late 80's early 90's camero, firebird, or mustang. you'll most likely need to fix it up a bit and these cars where never very fast. You may also be able to find a project that needs a lot of care and work for around this same price for a 60's model. check out DVAP.com and Hemmings.com for more listings. Craigslist.org is also good however beware as to what is sold on Craigslist. they are not always what they seem.

Go for an older corvette. If you really keep your eye out you can find one for 5k. Iv owned corvettes all my life and they are fabulous. I currently have an '04 and I love it. A young kid like yourself just needs to keep in mind to drive safely!
