He had his does yesterday morning, but the little tike then ran out and has only just returned so has missed his doses last night and this morning. I have just given him a dose and will do so again tonight will they still work? He has had a tooth removed and so i think these are because of that just as a preventitive.

Just continue to give it to him from now on. You should really keep your cat indoors. It is safer for him and then you would be able to dispense his medication as needed. Good luck.

Absolutely not! You need to either cancel your trip or arrange for someone you trust to come and give your cat her antibiotics. Maybe she could board at the vets? If you miss even one dose of the antibiotic it can leave behind some of the bacteria you are trying to get rid of. The bacteria, who will receive a less than lethal dose of the antibiotic, will then develop resistance to that particular antibiotic and in the future if the cat needs those antibiotics again, they will not be so effective. This is how MRSA (in humans and animals now too) has become such a problem. People didn't take the full course, the bugs developed resistance and now there are only a few antibiotics which can successfully destroy that bacteria! The rule is: Always finish the full course of antibiotics! Hope your cat is well again soon :)

The problem with antibiotics is that if treatment is stopped, the potential for the infections to become immune to them is high.

So, pick up where you left off, and be sure to continue treatment as prescribed.

The mouth is the worst place for likely infection, so he needs the treatment.

Yes, it is not good to interrupt, but if he continues normally they will work, especially since they are preventive.
