Hi, Eartha,

Most scientists assume scientific naturalism as axiomatic. That is, they assume an atheistic dictum that every event has a natural cause. They rule out divine intervention in observable events, not because evidence counters such intervention, but as a presupposition.

However, authentic science looks at the evidence without such presupposition. Thus, biochemist Michael Behe has studied incredibly complex cellular machines such as a bacterial flagellum. The flagellum has a number of essential working parts, so that it would not function at all without all the parts working in a system. He terms this complex interdependence of parts "irreducible complexity," and it seems to require an intelligent designer.

The Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI) uses fields of radiotelescopes to search for intelligent messages from aliens. So far, we've found none. But by the same principle, we can look for messages such as the libraries of information in DNA strands that attest to a Designer--if we are willing to abandon our atheistic presuppositions.

I think you'll enjoy Michael Behe's explanation on video, linked below.

Cheers,
Bruce

No it does not - modern science does not presume there isn't a great architect behind the creation of the universe and why things are the way they are. Modern science is only about discovering how ourselves and the universe does function. However, there are many (and many scientists fall into this category) who do have presuppositions that modern science will disprove the existence of the divine.

Modern Science does not disprove the existence of the Judeo-Christian (or Muslim, Hindu, etc....) God - it only shows how the processes of the universe as it is works.

Good Luck!!!

Yes. Science operates on the presupposition that supernatural explanations should not be used ever. However this is an invalid assumption, since certain things, such as the fact that all of the prophecies included in the Bible have been fulfilled can only be explained by supernatural explanations.

How do you expect an evolutionary biologist or anthropologist researching the evolution of Hom0 sapiens to even consider that our species was "created" by God...i mean it's funny that many people still believe in this nonsense.

Kingdom: Animalia

Phylum: Chordata

Class: Mammalia

Order: Primates

Family: Hominidae

Genus: Hom0

Species: H. sapiens

Subspecies: H. s. sapiens

This is where we stand in the animal kingdom and no we're not that special: genetically we're 96 percent similar to chimps.

Science and religion - no and no.

Science is Atheistic, yes. The reason its Atheistic is that religion pigeonholes a person into certain perceptions and doesn't allow them to think beyond that. Atheism says that the whole universe is an open book and allows you to question all. Its through questioning all things that great discoveries, hence advances in science, are made.

Religion doesn't want you to question, it prefers the status quo. Atheism says to question all, and only by the questioning may you eventually find the truth.

Science is not concerned with supernaturals or superstitions . Some scientists may have a belief in god, or everlasting life , but those beliefs can't influence his scientific study and research. If they do , he's a very poor scientist .
You can call it "Atheistic Presuppositions " if you care to - - I call it science .

There are many christians who believe in scientific principles and successfully combine them with their spirituality.

Even the Dali Lama, who believes in spirit, but not a god, is well versed in science. There are certainly things that most christians and atheists can agree on.

It is the fundies, who deny ALL science that the atheists can find no middle ground with.

I think we can agree on alot more if people would take the time to "seek" via every avenue.....including science. To me, science proves there is an intelligent creator. Just look at the complexity of the universe and yet it all works together.....constantly moving changing evolving but all in tandem, all in perfect cycles of life/death/rebirth......God IS the universe in my opinion.

Presuppositions are incompatable with science.

Since there is no proof of the existence of a diety that meets any kind of relevant scientific standard, the presumption is that the unproven and unprovable doesn't exist.
