My indoor/outdoor cat has some brown stuff/marks on the bridge of her nose and by her nostril. Is it an infection, some type of parasite, or are they scabs of scratches? i have been putting peroxide on it and it doesnt bubble. she also woke up this morning with a swollen crusty eye, which cleared up in an hour. she seems like she feels fine and it is not painful to her. i am wondering if i should take her to the vet. I would prefer not to unless i was sure i had to b/c i know it will be hundreds of dollars later.

I had a cat who had what I thought was a scrape on the bridge of her nose, but it didn't clear up. The vet said it was a seasonal allergic reaction to some local insect. Mango had to get a couple of cortisone shots every summer for the rest of the time we lived in that area (Boulder Creek, CA).

I wouldn't put peroxide on it anymore, and I would take the cat to the vet if the condition lasts more than a few days.

I agree that using peroxide is not the best choice- triple antibiotic ointment or neosporin would be a better choice. Keep a close eye on your cat-keep her indoors and watch for other symptoms- she may have an upper respiratory infection that is causing discharge to accumulate on her nose and cause irritation. It also wouldn't cost anything to call your vet and ask his/her opinion, they would have better insight into any possible diseases that may be prevalent in your area at this time.

she may just have a scrape monitor her for a couple of days and see how she goes i wouldn't put peroxide on as this may be the cause of her swollen eye
