My kittens 1 male, 1 female are about 5 1/2 months old. The vet has no openings til next week to fix them and while the female has shown no signs of being in heat, the male has had his nose up her rear end for 2 days now (he's not mounting her, just sniffing). He doesn't look like he's dropped yet. Is this what I think or am I being paranoid? I will have them fixed as soon the vet can get to them. But til then should I be worried? They aren't siblings.

I would suggest keeping them separated until you can get them into the vet next week...just to be safe. Please have them spayed and neutered!

My neutered cat keeps sniffing my female kitten's butt, and another neutered male's butt. So the sniffing is only a way of finding out more about the personality of the other cat, I guess. If there is no humping, I don't think there is a problem. Anyway, if you make an appointment for next week for fixing, even if they do mate by then there is no problem, it's still early enough and they can be fixed.

Dropped? Cats don't 'drop'.
Yes your cats can mate any time now, but it's no problem if they do, just keep your appointment as usual.
It's always better to 'fix' animals before they ever even start sexual behaviors. If the female is rolling around on the ground, and looking pleased with the world, she's exhibiting sexual behavior.
So, it's off to the vet's for them.

I don't think you should be worried. I think they are just exploring themselves. Still having them fixed is a great idea. Always have your pets spayed or neutered.

if he puts cat nip in her drink you are in trouble...those crazy kitties will do anything when they r high on the nip
