Yes if it is done properly. Some people are too critical of themselves and others cannot admit their faults. You need the happy medium.

It is also important that self criticism leads to change and improvement and the avoidance of the same errors. Taken in this light self-criticism is very important.

Perhaps the ability to analyze oneself is a better way of putting it because criticism seems a bit harsh unless I use the cliche 'constructive criticism'.

Yes, you must know your own weaknesses and strengths. If you do not know them you won't know what you need to work on and you won't know what to play on. Anyone who believes that they do not have any weakness, are deluding themselves. Everyone has them, it is just a matter of figuring them out.
Look at it this way, you are a walking Resume. You need to be able to play up your strengths and downplay those weaknesses.

Self examination, constantly measuring yourself against the behaviours and standards of others leads to self improvement. Know your strengths and weaknesses.

in addition honest and objective feedback from others is always helpful - even of you don't like what you hear!
