*cough* hypocrites. *cough*
Feeling superior is a fairly common human trait. One that a number of *other* faiths actually try to address. Christians in the past have actually used their religion/bible to oppress and dehumanize others (women, slavery, minorities, people of other faiths). Some would say these people are not "true" christians, but then I ask how many true ones are there really?

Well as with all religions, the religion can be twisted and warped away from the original pure intentions; this happens with all religions throughout the ages.
Christianity has been notoriously bad when it comes to unjust persecution. First the pagans were displaced in Rome and then outright persecuted (although for a time Christians were persecuted since it was believed that they were cannibals: "Here is by body, eat of it, here is my blood, drink of it") then the various Christian factions persecuted each other until only two were left, the Roman Catholics and the Eastern Orthedox. Eventually Protestantism rose and wars were based on different Christian beliefs.
Then starting with the United States, people were persecuted on the North American continent even before the United States came into existance. Every decent country in Europe shipped their Puritains over to Norht America where the witch-hunts began and people were persecuted. Then the Slave Trade began and the slaves were seen as property instead of as human beings. So In parts of the country, people wanted to keep the status quo and keep the Africans as 2nd hand citizens, and this was passed from generation to generation, while a very large number were able to get away from that ignorant and outdated idea, there are still a number of people wo want to return to the past.
So unfortunatly racism is a part of this cuntries history and the ignorant are not willing to be educated to modernize.

Not all US citizens claim to be Christian. It is just a major religion over hear. Not the only religion over hear.
How can racism be so prevalent. People don't practice being good Christians when they are , or being good at whatever religion they are. They just wish to find the smallest reason to hate one another.
The biggest problem we have in our are state is the hate against the people from Mexico (especially illegal immigrants). That isn't because of Christianity either. It is because people are a misinformed and afraid of change. It is the people from Mexico that do the jobs "good ol"(being sarcastic with the good ol part) Americans are either to lazy to do or refuse to do. I have heard many contractors say they rather higher a person from Mexico because they get less complaints from him during the work day and less chance of him quiting then they do the average American. That of course if reverse racism. An evil all its own.

Lots of room for improvement ... but much of the leadership for reducing racism has been from Christians. You might have a form of racism for generalizing the faults of some Christians.

The church has been seduced. And now, if anyone takes God seriously, they are branded as being a backward fundamentalist, or some other name designed to poke fun or mock.

I do not see much racism in the US, unless your definition of it is preferring your own family and your kith and kin. Go and live in Africa and Asia as I did and tell them you want equality with them and see what they tell you.
God created different species and different races and we should preserve them. We should live in harmony and cooperation and justice, but in different parts of the world. Inter racial marriage destroys both races and should be banned as a crime against humanity.

Although bigotry does still raise it's ugly head in the church, there are BY FAR more racists who are not affiliated with the church.
In other words, the secualr side has us beat hands down when it comes to racism, etc.
Having said that, we are living in times when the U.S. government does all it can to silence the "good" side because someone might be offended. So when all you get is the "bad" side......well, I'm sure you can figure out what I'm saying.

I reject your claim that racism is prevalent in the U.S. The media likes to play up any example of racism, whether real or not. We are not a racist nation. Churches are not segregated. People choose churches based on a lot of different factors. There are a lot of different styles of worship, music and cultural trappings that make different people feel comfortable in different types of churches. People tend to go to church in their own neighborhood, so if their neighborhood is made up mostly of one race, their church will be too.

Man's church, all the religious institutions, denominations, etc. will always fails. God's church is the body of Christ--all those who have faith in Him. His church will never fail.
Mt 16:18 And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it.
Grace and peace to you.
