I'm not a mom yet but I am a nanny. I have an awful gag relfex when it comes to throw up (not baby spit up, but real throw up) and certain poopy diapers; will I get used to this or is it differet when it's your own child? It's awful and I've always been like this. When someone around me throws up and I smell ot see it I want to throw up myself an often do; and really smelly poopy diapers make my gag.
My hubby and I are TTC and I want to know if it will be different when it's my child or if it's something I'll adjust to.

woah! It's not about growing up...it's about an involuntary reaction...I dont freak out, I just deal with it and clean the mess. I dont MAKE the child feel bad in any way because obviously they cant help it.

It is different when it's your own child, AND you do get used to it even when it's NOT your own child.
My brother had a terribly sensitive gag reflex before he had his own children. He lived with my partner and I for a little while when two of our children were quite young, and at first he had to leave the room if one of the babies had a dirty nappy or up chucked, but after a while he could handle it. He still felt really queasy though, and was never able to change a dirty nappy UNTIL he had his own child (a year old now). It's amazing to me to see how much he has changed, and how much stronger his stomach is lol.

You know... it does get a little better when it is your own child. However, some people just simply cannot control it. I have been known to gag a few times when cleaning up vomit, but it all comes with the territory. As a parent, that will be the least of your worries... a little bit of gagging is nothing compared to the love you will feel for your child. I have found that the best thing to do is keep a trashcan in your child's room and explain to them that if they are going to be sick, try their best to do it in the trashcan (this will of course only work with a child that is a little bit older, but cleaning that stuff up is worse when they do get older).

It's very different with your own child. I have a bad gag reflex too, but a few months ago my youngest threw up all over me..... and she had just had greenbeans! I was more worried about calming her down and making sure she was ok before I ever thought of cleaning myself up.
Now I have gagged at some poopy diapers. Some of them are just nasty....... even if they do come from your own kid LOL

Have you gotten a mildew of your tooth but? They continually do this earlier than they placed on braces, and that is what made me gag. They stretch your mouth open and placed this steel factor stuffed with goop for your mouth. It takes up your entire mouth and is going rather a long way again so that is why I gagged...But to reply your query no they do not stick something a long way ample again into your mouth to make you gag even as striking braces on you. And when you consider that braces are simply to your tooth, no, you do not gag after they're on. You get so used to them you do not even become aware of them after a couple of weeks.

Well, I have what I consider an overly-sensitive sense of smell and I feel the same way. Unfortunately, I never got over it. Luckily, the diaper phase passes and most kids don't throw up very often.
Ah, the joys of parenthood. ;-)
Good luck to you in your baby-making!!!

It is different when it's your own kids, and they dont start out smelly, so you have time to get used to it...That baby needs to be potty trained..I hated changing those diapers, even on my own kids, but it was not terrible!

When it's your own child it doesn't bother you the same way so don't worry. When you are taking care of your own child it becomes so second nature that you don't even think about it.

strangely it is different when its your own baby. My husband still has issues, but a mom has to do what she has to do.
Dont worry...it will be a laughing matter in a couple of years of motherhood.

You know, you have the ability to decide what grosses you out, and whats too much to handle. You've allowed yourself to react with a gag reflex at the sight or smell of vomit or pooping, and so your body always does it.
Stop it. Its not about who's child is it, its about the fact that the child cannot help themselves, and you must do it for them. Imagine how worthless a toddler might feel for having an accident and you react by freaking out and throwing up. Or if they are sick and cannot help themselves and throw up, and your reaction is to push them away and have a grand display of disgust.
You live in your body, and you are not subject to it, its subject to you. Dont throw up. See it for what it is, its natural, its nothing more than food thats been inside a body.
I hate throwing up, and after having been sick all my life I one day decided no matter how sick I was I wouldnt throw up anymore no matter what. I was 14 then. That was ten years ago, and Ive only thrown up twice since then. Both times while pregnant and it sneaked up on me without warning.
Grow up.
