My solution is to go out of town on family weekends. I expect the next thirty years to be this way. Does anyone have any ideas? My family is judgemental, selfish, closeminded, uptight, one way, and mean.

It's obvious it bothers you that you family is the way the they are. Are they even interested in getting together to try to get along? When families are close-minded and judgmental it's best to limit meetings. Even if you decide to get together, have a plan. Don't just get together for the sake of getting together. Meet for a birthday dinner or for some reason so the topic of conversation can stay with the purpose of the reunion. If this is too difficult then you just have to accept the way they are and stay away. There is a saying, "you can pick your friends but you can't pick your family". Families can be difficult and challenging to deal with so you have to make the decision if it's worth getting together or not. Another option is to find one family member you get along with the best and cultivate a relationship with them to maintain some family tie. Best of luck to you. Click below to read more.
