Urinary frequency in patients with interstitial cystitis averages 16 times per day but can be as much as 40 times per day. Nonbacteriuric patients with pyuria should be tested or empirically treated for Chlamydia infection..

Bladder Retraining
Timed voiding or bladder retraining drills are very helpful and usually the first line of therapy for Overactive Bladder. This excellent treatment is free, completely safe and effective in curing or improving symptoms in two thirds of women suffering from this very common disorder.

In timed voiding you may fill out a chart of voiding and leaking such as the voiding diary mentioned in the last paragraph. From the patterns that appear in the voiding chart, you can plan to empty before you would otherwise leak. The intervals that you urinate at can gradually be lengthened by 15 minutes each week while you are awake. In this way, you may stretch or increase the intervals at which you void. Another similar approach to bladder drills is to begin voiding every hour on the hour, except while in bed, whether the urge is felt or not.

This pattern is continued for two weeks. Then, you move up to voiding every hour and a half. Every two weeks, you increase the interval between voids by 30 minutes, until you have retrained yourself up to voiding at a comfortable interval of, for example every three to four hours. This biofeedback technique known as bladder training can alter or change the bladder s schedule for storing or emptying urine. These techniques are effective for urge incontinence, urgency, and frequency of urination and overactive bladder.

You should never postpone urinating. You should pee as soon as you feel l the urge. No urinal..... Go to fastfood or gas stations.... or bring one. How about lagging a bucket for long trips?

Curious, there's no single answer. There are people who pee twice a day, and people who pee every couple of hours. Drinking coffee or beer may mean every half hour for a while, for some people. It's a joke around some offices and schools that the coffee drinkers see one another in the restroom constantly every morning, yet never see each other in the afternoon.

Generally, if the need to pee interferes with your normal life, including sleep, that's too often. (For instance, if you pee before a class at school, but have to excuse yourself during class to go again.)

Dep on your age and gender. Females have the capacity to store lots of urine but surprisingly are prone to stress incontinence. Males above 60yrs tend to have more frequency and urgency because of prostate enlargement.
You are obviously having frequency and urge incontinence. Lots of cotton pads and sanitary napkins help but change them fast or you will smell of ammonia!!
