Indian constitution says in Art. 343
"Official language of the Union.—(1) The official language of the Union shall be Hindi in Devanagari script."
The point of the comment about Devanagari script is to distinguish Hindi from Urdu, which is essentially Hindi in the Arabic-based Urdu script. No matter how many votes art. 343 was originally passed by, the whole constitution did pass, and in India a change to the constitution could easily be made if such was the desire of the people at large. Also, the proportion of people who speak Hindi (+ Urdu) has almost certainly greatly increased since the constitution was adopted.

hello. Sub kaise hein? Hindustani is mainly the national language for the northern states of India, and many people who speak other indo arayan languages such as bhojpuri, awadhi, rajasthani, are all dialects of Hindi, hence are able to understand hindi.
The southern states do not hold hindi as its official language.

In any democracy the numbers or the majority counts. The one Indian language understood by more Indians is Hindi. Hence it is our national language.

Namaste!
I'm not indian, so please don't be mad for my answer!
...Look what we see here in Europe about that quest?
...Hindustani is 3th or 4th most speaking language from the world.
That i founded on school...so i think this is a good reason for you to keep Hindi as official and "dialect" hindustani like spoken language! :))
Good day!
Jay Hind!
