I have 3 pugs myself. You made a great choice of dog! Pugs do sleep a LOT. I wouldn't worry too much, but maybe buy him some soft food for the time being and mix it with his kibble. One of mine was sick and not eating so the vet told me to try soft food. It's good that he's drinking water though. I think he is probably trying to get adjusted to you and his new surroundings. Good luck....you have many happy pug years ahead of you!!!
I just re-read the question......7 weeks is too young for it to be away from it's mother, yes, but 8 is pretty standard so I don't think it's a huge problem.

Congrats! A puppy that is 7 weeks old was released from it's mother and liter mates too early. Puppies should be with their mothers until between 8-12 weeks, depending on breed. Call where you got him and ask what they were feeding him and what times. You should take the pup to the vet for it's health check up anyway and you can also ask there. Yes they sleep ALOT. But it should eat. Mine wasn't too interested in food for the first day (but still ate) but then started eating well after that. Also remember it's a new environment so he has to get used to it.

A 7 week old pup should be active. The sleeping suggest that this pup has low blood sugar, especially if not eating.Take away all water and replace with the baby non-flavored pediolyte, try boiling some chicken, cut into small pieces, put in blender with small amount of water and puree it,most will eat this. Also give your baby a dab of plain honey on its tongue to elevate its sugar. The pup may need to be dewormed if it hasn't been wormed within the last two weeks. The wormer named Panacur is very safe for a pup and can be purchased at any vet office. If this continues, you will have to take the pup to a vet and have it checked,as a small pup must eat several times a day.

As like the other answers, he was too young to be taken from his mom and siblings. That alone would make him sick. But just to make sure, take him to the vet and have peace of mind that it's just homesickness and not a medical problem. My shepherd was 10 wks old when we bought him home, and after visits to the breeder and giving him his name at 5 wks old, that big dog was sick for the first wk we had him. B/c he was a FAT little guy, and I wanted to get him vet acquainted, I took him right from the breeder to the vet's office. Though he got a good bill of health, he would not eat and only drank water sparingly for the first wk. My whole family would hold and sooth him all the time, and I know it's not normal, b/c he looked so scared and sick, he slept with me for a few wks and then moved into his crate for crate training. It will just take time to adjust, but again, to make sure he's homesick and not physically sick, take him to the vet. Congrats and enjoy your new friend.

I think any dog can be lazy given the right envirnoment. Give your dog two walks a day - in the morning and at night and I am sure the pug will be fine. I suggest you see what makes the dog excited, is it food treats or toy treats. When found out get the dog to do obedience training using either of these. Does it really matter if the dog is mix or pure bred. Are you thinking of showing the dog - if not who cares. A mix breed will have less health problems and anyway you agreed to have the dog knowing how it looked at the time. Pugs can be either lazy or not - depends on the individual dog.

No it is not normal at all! Take that baby to the vet! I would say to take it back to the breeders but if they don't even care enough to keep the pup till it's ready (usually around 11-12 weeks of age) then they obviously won't care enough to get it the right type of treatment.

He is really young. He must miss his siblings and mother. Are you holding him alot? That would be good. He is such a baby.
I would think it's frm the trauma of changing environments. I know human babies sleep alot when you change their environment - it's a defense mechanism.
He'll eat when he is hungry but make sure he drinks.
I would call the vet for good measure.

It is normal for pups to sleep a lot however if he is not eating too, I would visit the vet. 7 weeks is too young to leave its mother and litter mates and he is very scared. I would definitely call the vet and take him in to get checked out! Good luck-

Oh, he's a baby! How cute!
Yeah, babies usually do one of two things: sleep and poop. Don't worry, the only reason he's sleeping so much is that (like human babies), he's growing like a weed.
As long as he eats some, he's fine. Other than that, don't wake him up. Congratulations mommy!

He has to eat. You might try letting him drink some slurpy milk with soft food in it. He is just really young. (People will give you horror answers about the milk, but it really won't hurt him).
If he isn't eating and is still plump, you need to get him wormed.
