The sun is our closest star. It makes its own heat and light.

Energy output (3.86e33 ergs/second or 386 billion billion megawatts) through nuclear fusion, at its core. Every second 700,000,000 tons of hydrogen are converted to 695,000,000 tons of helium and 5,000,000 tons of gamma rays. This energy is absorbed and re-emitted at lower and lower temperatures so that by the time it reaches the surface, it is primarily visible light. For the last 20% of the way to the surface the energy is carried more by convection than by radiation. People have nothing to do with it. C. :)!!

It's due to gravity.

The size of the sun (its large mass) causes very strong gravitational attraction at its center. This attraction is sufficiently strong to cause nuclear fusion. The fusion releases energy, which is where the sun gets its energy.

It's the Old E=MC^2 in action, the sun turns mass into energy, it's on a 10 billion years diet program. and that makes it hot.
but at the end of all that diet it will all get red and bloated, and then die.

God created the sun to give light during the day, read Genesis.

Stars get their energy from fusion. It starts from the center and radiates out.

So, I guess stars make their own energy from the gases that they are made of, and then radiates that energy to other bodies around it.

its all nuclear gas out there in space right? so with all the stars (dwarves, compared to its size) that surrounds it.

This sounds like a really bad joke... but the answer to your question is "NUCLEAR FISSION/FUSION"
