Dogs roll in things they like the smell off so they their natural scent is covered for when they want to go 'hunting'.

Many animals roll in smelly stuff (often its the feces of other animals!). Apparently, the purpose is to mask their own smell.
Have you ever noticed that as soon as you bathe your dog, the first thing they do when they go outside is to roll in the grass? Guess they don't particularly want to smell like baby shampoo! Trying to stop them from rolling in disgusting smelling things will be an uphill battle - it seems instinctual.

count your blessings! I have one dog who likes to carry them in and roll on them in comfort - on the sofa! She's capable of barking at the door to get in with a worm 100% in her mouth where you can't see it too!
