I live in Las Vegas, so mosquito bites aren't really common. This summer, it's really humid for some reason. I'm really scared of WNV since my sisters keep teasing me about it. I have two bites. One on the top my wrist, which is the size of about your thumbnail and healthy-looking pink, and one on the side of my pinky that is the same color as my pinky. The mosquitos in my house are just small, itsy ones. Would I get west nile virus? Are there any home-made ways for getting rid of the mosquitos? I already put a small cup of garlic powder in my room. Anything else?

I was a former MedLab technologist and, lab tech for the County where I lived. I also lived in Vegas for over twenty years. We run a Mosquito abatement program here for Mosquito's.

If you had West Nile Virus there I'm sure you would have heard about it. In the meantime don't listen to your sisters. There is some area of concern as to the West Nile Fever but, it's highly unlikely you have it.

Watch for the song birds you have in the yards, I know you don't have many but, the few you do have, if you see any flailing around and dying, don't touch them, pick them up like you would, with a baggie for dog poop and seal it, call the health department and let them know, it's better to have an adult do it or, just call the health department.

i was living in Michigan when the west-nile was a big deal. I remember them spraying at night with those little itty bitty airplanes, the smell was horrible. We all had like a dozen mosquito bites each and none of us ever had a problum. so I think your fine. I don't know any home-made remedies but I think if the goverment isn't worried enough to spray than no one has actually had the virus.( so your safe ) it would be on the news way before you had the chance to get it. so your O.K.

unless you're very young or very old, with undeveloped or weak immune systems, West Nile isn't a concern. I'd be more concerned with the irritating itch of mosquito bites.
