Other than the basic answers already given, with which I agree, I think it boils down to marketing. "Grey" might make one think of dull things, not very exciting and boring. Silver, though, is generally shiny, as it is a metallic, and therefore might make one think of prettier, more exciting things and that it just looks better because it's labeled as silver and not gray. Although, there would be a difference between gray cotton and silver satin, but I think it's just one of those words that might often just be used for marketing purposes as well.

grey - a mixture of black and white
sliver- a mixture of black and white with an added pearly tint or metallic tint ( depends on what shade of sliver you're talking about.)
