Hi.

It's not a question of how much money you have. It's what you, not someone else, .... you, like doing, what you're good at and what you can be passionate about.

Take that and work out how you can make money out of it. You either need to sell a lot of something small or a few of something big. If that sounds obvious, it's amazing how often people lose big money forgetting these basics.

You have to have a product, a supplier and a customer. Ditto above. Who will buy from your business? Why?

Put that in perspective, come up with a REAL answer. One that you are sure people will 'buy' or you're better off putting your $30K into the stock-market and letting other people do it for you!

Don't be a plod doing stuff that a million other people do, and don't buy the latest fad because chances are the money has already been made and now they're relying on your money to get their's back! (e.g Ostrich farming). Think of something new and exciting to you.

Example: Joe likes fixing computers. Joe becomes one of the million people fixing computers at $30 an hour ten hours a week.

His good friend Mike works out a better computer product that makes the system run faster/more reliably etc. He figures out how to sell it, finds a manufacturer and a distributor and markets it at $30 each. Because of the difference it makes it becomes a widely loved gadget and sells 100,000 items in the first year ... who ends up richer?

Nobody can and should tell you which type of business to invest your money in. Be wary of anyone that attempts to "sell" you on a business opportunity.

As I've said to others: Please go to the SBA website of the US Gov't (small business adminstration). Download their business plan and read everything on their site. Granted, it is not the complete answer but it certainly is better than the 30-second sound bites you'll get here.

I've been in my own business for 5 years and I started with the information I found on the US Gov't SBA website.

The things you are saying here may attract unscrupulous people. I would be more careful if I was you.

But to get back to your question... look at it as an opportunity to follow your passion. Pick something that you are better at than anyone you know... and of course do a little test marketing before you blow your savings.
