Someone says something funny, & an audience laughs, & then we all get punished, joking or not, we still have to suffer consequences.

pranks take advantage of people, and that's not a good feeling to give.

Well in some cases they're just seriously lacking in a sense of humour, but other times the joke might be offensive to them. If you like to make jokes about people's race, religion, or other personal choices, you might be setting yourself up for a lot of grouchy responses but otherwise, it's just a matter of whether or not they know how to have a good laugh and some people just don't!
Just for an instance, once this girl I know belted out this crack about clergy members being a great lot of perverts towards children and I didn't laugh much because half of my family are members of the clergy so it made me feel awfully uncomfortable. I felt like I didn't know what I was going to say if she found out, and I was worried she would think we were all a lot of nonces or something!

the person who is being pranked or the person who the joke is about may not like it because it may be reminding them of something in their past that th pranker/joker may not know about. It can really upset them. It could also be because the joke is about something (e.g. what they look like) that they aren't comfortable with.
It is not because the person is moody, grouchy or touchy.

People have different opinions and everyones attitude towards something is always different.
They were probably highly offended and wanted to do something..
Which leads to you being punished in some way.
