Its called 'silica -gel'. The product comes in different colours and is used to indicate the presence of moisture which the gel absorbs from its surroundings. You can get it colourless, orange turning green, blue turning pink. You can reuse it by drying it out again. It comes in different textures, fine ground, or larger grit sized. The different grain sizes help the moisture to flow through the gel and be absorbed more effectively. You will find it in small sachets inside tablet boxes and drums, use if for drying flowers, use it for keeping anything else moisture free.

I don't know but it says "DO NOT EAT". I've never bought a pair of shoes thinking that there might also be something to eat in the shoe box.

They are called Silicia gel...It keeps the shoes fresh so they won't have an odor/wetness. I remember eating them once at the shoe store...My mom called the ambulance because I kept throwing up...I couldn't read at the time lol...Because it clearly stated "Do not eat!"
